Less than .1 % of trans replaced?

I had some free time today, so called Acura of Troy to get my trans recall taken care of. No, problem, they fit me in.

As I am meeting with the service advisor, I let him know that I am well read on the trans recall, etc. (from this board). He tells me the car will be ready in a few hours. I said. 'unless you need to replace the trans...' to which he says, 'We have done about a thousand of these. Do you know how many trans we have replaced because of it? 1.' One out of a Thousand?

The dealership made it seem like no big deal at all, and there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Maybe they know a customer could blow up on them? Hopefully there is nothing to worry about.

Is this how others experiences have gone?

Crazy how you read these boards and it makes it sound like everyone has a problem. Must not be the case if they are only replacing 1/10th of 1%.

My 2003 TL-S has 25,000 miles, all put on by me in the last 15 months. car has been running great. Hopefully it will continue.

Acura of Troy is a big fucking joke. I will NEVER take my car there again. They will not hesitate to lie in your face. I don't even want to get into the stories right now. If I were you, I would start taking the car to Suburban Acura. Depending on where you live, it could be farther away, but they are so much better.

Bwahahahaha. Thats a good one. Sometimes I dont know who lies the most; the salesmen, or the service guys.

At Acura of Troy, definitely the service guys. Their sales staff is straightforward and pleasant to deal with. Every time I took my car in for service, though, I was fed BS lines.

All dealers are pretty much a bunch of liars. They will tell you anything to get you to shut up. I had to fight tooth and nail to get my service advisor at Nalley Acura in Marietta, Georgia to concede to there being a problem with my Bose sound system. It was only after intense scrutiny and comparing it to another TL of the same year.

Angry

The reality is that most places dont really care what you think, as long as it doesnt become a problem. I have gotten used to being fed bs. The good thing is that I do not hesitate to call them out when I get shitty service. Last time i took my car in, they brought down the garage door on the rear bumper. All i said was take care of it and when they didnt, I made it very clear to them that if it wasnt properly fixed, I would make a huge deal out of it. Needless to say, the took me seriously the second time.

Actually I went to Acura of Troy for the recall and I asked them to drain the transmission fluid. The place was basically empty, I was in and out of there in roughly 1 hour (this was in March?). I have like 100,000 miles on a 2000 TL.

When I question the female service lady about repeat transmissions going bad, she was like that has only happened here once. That after replacing a transmission one time, they had to replace it again.

What other independents in Detroit do you recommend? Datsun Doctor?

Troy is so convenient for me since I live there.

Understandable, but I just don't trust them. They treated me like I don't know anything, and when that didn't work, they lied to me, and when that didn't work, they bitched. Then they fucked up on everything. Fuck 'em. The lives of two of my friends and my own were put in danger because they fucked up and neglected their job. And when I say put in danger, I'm not talking about a missing bolt or low oil. The brakes seized and nearly sent us into a ditch while going 80 mph. Fuck them up their stupid asses, and I'll say the same thing in their faces. Fuck 'em. I do not trust them with my car, much less my life. If they only screwed up once, then I could consider it an isoalated case. But they always, always managed fuck something up.

Argh... this is bringing back bad memories. I need stop here, because I can feel my blood pressure going up.

Any dealer that says they have only done one cannot be telling the truth. Maybe they just refuse to do them and pass the buck to someone else, I don't know.

I have had 4 trannies, including the one I am in now. If the rate of failure was anywhere near .1% I would not have had multiple failures. The fact that I have had 3 replacements would be so improbable against a .1% failure. And there are plenty of others whose trannies have gone out more then once. Camrys a while back had an issue with engine sludge that required their engines rebuilt. Toyota gave them an 8 year unlimited mileage warranty. That is standing by your product. Honda would never do that b/c that are unwilling to fix it. Rather they are happy to pay a subcontractor to build trannies with very limited life expectancies. 20k miles for a tranny is not acceptable. Plus a tranny failure at the wrong place could pose a danger to the driver, their passengers and others. But I am sure Honda has done a risk management study and found that replacing trannies is the most cost effective.

No media outlet is talking about this. No 20/20 no Primetime, and no local use. I guess someone must get hurt in an accident for someone in media or government to actually care.
