Lemon Law Hearing Granted
Hey fellow TL'ers. My other car (1996 VW GLX VR6, with 81,000 miles) has been a complete Lemon, I've been granted a hearing on March 11, 2003, to have my case reviewed. Since the vehicle remains under the Factory Warranty (10 year/100,000) I may receive one or more of the following:
1. No action
2. Reimbursed for repairs (which is over $5,000)
3. Replacement Vehicle (New 2003 Jetta w/ VR6) or reimbursed for value (I estimate to be $20,000k +)
4. Combination of any of the above.
My hope is that I get a brand new car, saving the cost of taxes and having a vehicle with a new warranty.
My question is, between the two choices what would you get (I admit I don't understand when people ask these types of questions, but I'm stuck on the fence on this one and I would appreciate your feedback to aid me in making my final decision).
These are my two choices:
2003 Jetta GLX VR6 (5 speed Tiptronic)
2003 Jetta GLI VR6 (6 speed manual)
The GLX has all the bells and whistles, including power seats and on board computer.
The GLI is about 1/2 second faster 0-60 times and would be more fun to drive (expect in major traffic, I live in California if that helps)
Would appreciated your feedback
Thanks!

Good luck with the hearing, although I've heard from an attorney that it is almost impossible to enforce the lemon law, just too hard to prove. I believe the vehcile has to be in for repair for the same nonconformity at least 3 times, does that apply to you? Good luck with it and keep us updated.

You should get the GLI 1.8T instead of the VR6. More potential with the ECU upgrade, etc. If you get it chipped, you will have the same amount of hp as the VR6, not to mention you can get intercooler upgrades, exhaust, headers, etc. etc., but you should see what the results are from your hearing. Good luck.

I'd say go with the GLX. It's got tiptronic, so you can kind of use it like a manual(of course it's not the same) and unlike with any manual, you get a WARRANTY with the auto, and judging by what you have gone through so far, I would say you NEED a warranty.

The 1.8 turbo is just not an option for me. I currently have the VR6 and that is a great motor. In faq I hear the 200hp VR6 will give the Type-S a run for it's money. I admit, I 'm not up on all the stats, but I've seen threads posted that stat the VR6 is a monster.
Also, after going through what I dealt with, no mods for this guy. If I am awared anew car, I will test drive them back to back and most likely make a dession on the spot, with my wife in tow, I 'm sure that will help seal the deal.
Thanks!
