LED conversion

Since becoming a new owner of a 99 TL (Thanks to someone flatbedding my 2k 300M and not returning it!! :thief: ) I wanted to do some mods to make it more of my own.

The bose system has totally been ripped out and replaced.
I have a skirt kit coming with TL-S rims and tires. (Ooops, actually CL-S rims)
I'm still thinking about a spoiler but I just dont know.
I've replaced the cup holder (thanks for the idea on this site) with the newer type thank god!!!

Ok, so now a new package arrives today (1 of 2) for the LED conversion. I hate the yellow/green instrument cluster and auto climate/clock gauges. I want them to be blue. So today I spend half the day modding my instrument cluster with LED's.

Attached is a few pics to check out. Let me know what you guys think. And I realise there is a few hotspots. Maybe I will shave the LED's.....haven't decided yet.

Looks pretty good, it will look great once you get the hotspots taken care of! Where did you get the LEDs and how much did they cost? I bet install was tedious!

I also hate the backlighting of the Acura CL/TL!

Hmmmm lowering car.......scraping skirt kit because of all the potholes in London......not good Really I thought about lowering it, but the roads are just too crappy here.

TL-S guages are nice, but with the swap, supposedly the Temp gauge doesnt work? And the white background is nice, but looks too Intrepid for me. I like the black background. I had the white face electrolight gauges on my 300M. Time for something different

Where do you guys usually meet?

Welcome! No need to even wait til Spring --- many of us local TLers meet up quite regularly for coffee or a bite to eat and see each other a lot between official "meets"! Most of us are in and around T.O., but feel free to meet up with the gang any time.

london isn't too bad comparing with TO, you need to lower ur car since ur got the kit, it looks awesome~

why not? the temp guage is with the odometer, so it doesn't matter

the guages in daytime it's white, but nite time it goes black like the regular TL does~

we usually meet either Yorkdale Mall or hwy7/hwy 400. we got quite a few guys in TO area~

TL-S gauges are different in a few other ways. The redline is totally different than a '99 TL-P and the dash warning lights are different as well.
I agree though - I hate the greenish hue of our instruments when lit...I'm not a huge fan of the italicized font used in the '99's cluster (too busy looking and crowded once you hit triple digits on Canadian model), and they don't have much personality. I, too, wish that they lit up blue!

Is there a pic of a lowered 99TL with spoiler and skirt around here? I'm too lazy to look right now!!!

As for the guages, I think its the water temp guage they were talking about that doesnt work, but I could be wrong. Those gauges are exactly the way the intrepids are. White during day, black at night. What colour are the numbers at night?

OMG, Yorkdale? Could you find a more hostile spot on the planet??? LOL!!! Talk about parking rage if I ever see one. X-mas is 100 times fold!!!
400/7 sounds better...........Hmmmmm "Dave and Busters"!

why the water temp guage doesn't work? they are all the same?? i have to confirm this b4 i go get them

yeah we will be meeting at D&B for sure next time!!! we couldn't find much space at Yorkdale last time~

Hahaha..Yep - Yorkdale can get very crazy over the holidays! We meet in various locations around the GTA.....Dave & Busters, a few spots in Richmond Hill and Markham, Hwy. 7 & Martingrove.....depends what everyone is in the mood for. Big, "official" meets are usually done in larger lots, while casual gatherings with a few regular TLers here can be anywhere (but mostly in York Region).

Edit:
Here's a pic of TL-S gauges

https://acurazine.com/forums/ramblings-12/where-can-i-find-good-online-picture-host-104299/

As you can see, the redline and warning lamps are totally different than your '99 TL-P. Just compare your pic from above to this one.

Shaving might not help...you should have gotten wider angle LEDS. I am in the process of replacing all the bulbs with leds in my vette. haven't done the acura yet

yup, so i am thinking of the CDN spec of the type-S guages, here they are missing the DRL light.

i was thinking of buying from him but he's ripping ppl off by asking more for local buyers pickup than shipping to US. just gay~

the redline is at 6900rpm for TL-S but the regular TL can do the same if you use SS, but in D5 they will shift at around 6250rpm.

but it's kinda fun for a TL-P that you can go thru halfway of the redline til 6900rpm and the feeling is cool~

They are as wide as you can get. They are the 5 Wedge LEDs (one on top, 4 on the sides). Just the top one is too bright.

Great start with the LED conversion. One guy on the board (Tatewaki) is like a master when it comes to stuff like this. He's GTA and knows the '99-'01 like the back of his hand. He's told me the countless times he's ripped his car apart (inside & out). He lurks from time to time (re: he got married!) so he's not as active on the board as before.

I thought about the LED conversion ... very tempting.

Lastly ... meets? I drive from Windsor up to Toronto quite regularly. Most meets last year were at Dave & Buster's (400/7) but the last one was at Yorkdale. Maybe we should have a London meet next year so that it's a fair drive for all. (This is getting off-topic!)

Ok, once I get the hot spot(s) sorted out and put the dash back together, I will post a DIY and where I got the goodies. So bare with me, this is a work in progress and I just wanted to share the results so far and get some feedback.
I don't want to give any info away in case this becomes a flop (not that it looks like it will be, but SH*T happens), you wouldn't want me to recommend something that I wouldn't put in my own car would you? Don't need to be a hated member here.

I have been taking pictures of the progress so I will be using them with the DIY. Since Teknoking has his nice webpage for DIY LED's on the rest (auto climate, radio, switches) I will just concentrate on the instrument cluster. I am, however waiting on the second shipment of goodies for these very items (auto climate, switches, etc) and will take pics as well.

I'm not here to steal anyone else's thunder who have accomplished this before either. I tip my hat to them for giving me the courage and the idea to attempt this. It's not rocket science either, which is why I wonder why a few posts I've read have tried it and had problems, or just think its hard. I guess thats why I'm here to see if its possible to simplify it and pass it on to others who are sick of the yellow/green crap we call gauges!!! Although, that will mean my car wont be unique anymore either.

Slightly off topic.

Guys from T.O., where do you buy your stuff at? I'm new to this scene and wondering what is out there for us Canadians? Stuff like fogs, 2003+ taillights for 99+ cars, etc, etc? Or should I just stick with Ebay?

OEM parts are only found from acura dealers or else on ebay

it doesn't hurt to call in an dealer and ask for the price for the parts~

Thats why...its not really a led conversion, you just swapped bulbs withe LED bulbs. I thought you actually soldered in your own LED's like nate did.

Its still an LED conversion. Its still a mod that takes time and knowhow. You can't just pop these puppies in like a normal bulb. They are too big.

Soldering......that comes next........
