Leather - hardening?
Leather - hardening?
It seems like the passenger seat of my 02 TL-P (Anthracite/Ebony) is hardening on the bottom (the real leather part). It's rough to the touch, and looks like the texture isn't right. Conditioning doesn't help. It's only got 39k miles, and the dealer is replacing the driver's seat bottom because they damaged the leather. Will it match? Anyone have this problem with their leather seats in the TL? Is it a warranty thing?
owowww.. alot of people with ebony interior are getting the same problem that you have. my friend with black interior has this happening. when you touch it, it feels very harsh, almost like alligator skin type texture. but people with parchment interior, the leather gets softer as time passes.. this is weird. i think the leather is getting dried up and shrively due to the sun. since its dark it absorbs the rays better causing it to get very dried and harsh.. thats what im thinking...
Yeah something is NOT right, it's not so bad on my driver's seat. The only reason the seat cover is being replaced on that side is because Nalley Acura (Marietta, GA - AVOID) damaged it.
Now I'm thinking it's gonna look funny, and I'd really like to have it replaced. You're right about how it feels, it doesn't feel nice at all.

No it's no cost, it's been ordered... for the driver's seat because they damaged it. I'm just wondering if I can get the passenger seat, which is hardening, replaced under warranty.
this is what i found, i have parchement interior (tan).
I use Mr.Clean Magic Erase to remove the dirt (works like magic, no joke), than I apply leather conditioner, 2 coats. the seats after 5 years, still look like new.

Use Leatherique.com Rejuvinating Oil. Rub the seats completely with the stuff, then put the car in the hot sun with the windows rolled up for at least a day. This gives the stuff a chance to really penetrate. And btw, there isnt any 'petroleum based oils' in their product, its all natural stuff.
