Hi there everyone, I need help in figuring out what is the cause of a knocking sound under the hood. I have a 2001 acura 3.3.2 TL. I am annoyed by the knocking sound every time I accelerate it comes on once I accelerate.

 

what kind of fuel are you using?
any check engine lights?
how's your oil level?

 

So far everything is good no engine lights, oil changed was 2 months ago tranny was changed last week

 

I went to a mechanic and they said that I have to replace the upper control arms. .Is that what makes the knocking sound. ?

 

we dont know.

we are using the internet as a medium. I cant see or hear or inspect your car from the internet.

it could be the upper control arm. some one needs to look at it

that's a common wear out part and Im due for one myself!
makes a thunking over small bumps? that's it!
not a big deal to replace, your guy may have seen wear on both sides, or one failed and expect other side to follow
for some reason the driver side seems to go more often

 

the other odd under hood noise is the ac belt tensioner, at top front of engine- the one you can see. very common part wearout
