Killed a Crown Vic
So I pull up to a light next to a 50-sumthin guy in a late-model Crown Vic. :o About 100 yards beyond the light, the two lanes merged in to one, so one of us was gonna have to concede pretty fast. I'm in the lane that fizzles out, so already he his probably thinking that I'm there just to try to pass him.
Anyway, the light turns green, and this guy was determined that I wasn't gonna pass him. He kinda caught me by surprise cause I didn't expect him to launch it the way he did. So, he is already a half car length on me before I really get moving. It wasn't long before I was a car length ahead of him, and I eased over just as the lanes merged.
After that, he slowed down and drove at, or under, the speed limit. I can only assume that he was one of those guys that hates to be passed, even if he isn't in a hurry.
So, how slow are those V-8 powered Crown Vics anyway?

Are you Kidding me??? a Escort would give you a better run. They are so slow that Motor Trend doesn't even post stats for it. Unless it its a Mercury Marauder `03!! (AKA Crown Vic on steroids)
4.6L-V8
300hp
0-60 = 6.9
1/4 mile = 15.4 @92
Not bad giving the weight of the vehicle

See, before I came up to that light, I was in the left lane, and would have been sitting behind him. But, I decided to take the open lane, and make the pass before the lanes collapsed into one. He saw that and decided he was gonna keep me from doing it. After he got beat (badly), he resumed his normal slow poke pace...

I raced a guy in a Crown Vic once. At highway speeds. I had my Chrysler 300M back then which pulled like crazy at 90mph. The Crown Vic with its V8 was pretty good at those speeds to but I beat him 3 times, going past 100mph. Then he won anyway because he turned on the blue and red lights that he had behind the grille.

BTW, what do police cars have under the hood that make them different from regular/civilian cars ?

Here in Yonkers they have quite a few interceptor engines. And one of the most amazing cars they have here is the 5.7 litre Impala Interceptor. The car is amazing and only a few stations have them. My uncle was driving one with his partner for a little while before he switched to special forces after 9/11. The car has the ls1 5.7 litre v8, rear wheel drive and it's all from the factory. They also have front drivers with the 3.8 litre v-6. But this is just to show you that chevy is really considering a rear driving impala with the small block 8 because the camaro is gone.
