Arrow Keys

When I bought my 2002 TL-S it only came with one key and one keyless remote unit. The dealer (not acura) said that many of these are stolen at auction or lost by the original owner. Regardless the key that I have is a copied key and not the original key provided by Acura. I want to get another copy made just in case I loose the only copy I have. After looking into it a little, I realized that these are transponder keys, which have to be programmed and not just copied at Homedeopt. I found I can get one off ebay or streetkeys.com for around $20 but, If I go to the local hardware store and have them cut the key for me, will Acura charge me a boat load to program the key for me or is there away to do it yourself, such as some of the fords were you put a working key in the ignition turn it on, then off then within 10 seconds put in the new key? Any help here? Also same question with the keyless remote, I have the memory 2 unit, if I buy one off of e-bay will Acura program it for me?

hey tom im an acura tech in tn - the only way you can get it to work is to go your local dealer and let them program the key(s) to the immobilizer. the remote will have to be programed with the the other remote also. so you will need everything there at the same time of programing. also does the key you have open the trunk if not then you have valet key.

later rick

1...your new key
2...a MASTER KEY (one with the remote in it)already programmed to car.
to program the transponder- (thats the immobilizer part)
sitting in dr. seat, put the master key in ignition, and turn to on.engine OFF. press the gas pedal 5 times to floor and release. now press brake 6 times (press and release)
remove master key from ignition. install new key and turn to on...engine off. press gas to floor once. now wait. the security light will blink for about 45-60 seconds, then it will go off if you did it correctly. once the light is off, car should start.

For the remote part. in drivers seat WITH DOOR OPEN. start with door unlocked. first put master key in ignition, turn to on, then back off and remove. using the lock/unlock button on drivers door. press lock.. then unlock 5 times.(lock, unlock, lock, unlock, lock, unlock, lock,un lock, lock, unlock)
Close drivers door, open drivers door.
Performe lock/unlock procedure again.
insert key in to ignition and turn to on, then back off and remove.(at this point the doors should lock and unlock by themselves ONCE)
Now press both lock and unlock buttons on REMOTE. release after about 1.5seconds. now press just the lock button on remote.
now open and close the drivers door a couple times to close programming. if you did it right, remote will now work.

I had a '96 Maxima fob that had to be programmed almost like the above. Its almost to the point where someone is going to have to wave a dead chicken and mumble voodoo chants to get the damn thing programmed.

I just purchased a 2002 3.2tl s-type from a lexus dealer. Only one key came with the vehicle. I took the car to a local acura dealer to take care of the trans. recall, and i also asked about how to get a second key. I paid about $21 total for a new, programmed key, and the guy also reprogrammed an old remote that they had in the front desk and gave it to me for free. I don't know if other acura dealers do this, but it can't hurt to ask if they have any old remotes lying around somewhere.

i recently purchased an 03 tl and only got one keyless remote, but two keys. The keyless remote was mem2 so i bought a new keyless remote from dealer for $85 (ouch). when i went to service dept to have them program the remote, they told me that they were busy and i needed an appt to have that done. i left discusted and when i got home, i did some searching on the web about programming the remote myself. I found this article http://www.honda-acura.net/forums/ar...p/t-55508.html and after some trial and error, got it to work. the over all process only took 30 seconds. The instructions were for a 98 honda, but it worked. one note, make sure you program BOTH keyless remotes at the same time. i made the mistake of not doing it and lost the programming in the one i originally had. just follow the steps and you will be ok on programming

good luck

Ilangley, my situation is the opposite of yours...I got 2 remote and 1 ignition key. Since I bought the car from other state, and when I picked up the car the salesman was off that day, so the other rep. helped me out. But he forgot to give me 2 ignition keys. Since then I asked the original salesman that I have been dealing and he's just said...oh just get another key from your local dealer. :S

Key Programming

I did the same thing. I got only one remote and two keys (master and valet).
I bought some remotes on e-bay and programmed the car to recognize the new fobs.

For the keys I got a pair of new blanks, had them cut at the local ACE hardware store for $1 each. I tried to get the keys recognized by the imobilizer using a variety of techniques listed on this and other web sites. No luck. So I went a local Honda dealer and they couldn't/wouldn't program the keys.(It looks like the keys have to be programmed, not the car). Ao I went to Mile High Acura and they have a gizmo that they put my master key and and "copied" the code to the two blanks. No charge!
Everything works now.

Mile High Acura rocks!
