Key locked in car

I dont have my back up in the state I am in.

Does my 99 tl have a smart chip? I would like to get a duplicate made just for the door locks. Will that be possible?

Is there a quick way to jimmy it?

DONT BREAK THE WINDOW!!! ...its cheaper to call one of this companies that specialize in your problem...then you can take the key and have it duped at your ACURA dealer for $40...yes it does have a chip thingy. OR buy a replacement remote, which is what i did, at EBAY for 15-20shipped instead of $93 at the dealership...yes, they work...

peace.

You cannot jimmy that car. Very tough to do.

Sadly, I will admit to having locked the only set of keys I had in my car and called road side assistance. The locksmith had to use the bladder trick and pryed my door apart. Using that gap, he then got a string on a stick looking thing and pulled the lock inside open.
10 minute job for him.

Since then I bought a spare ignition key and a regular key that will only unlock the door (Both were 50 bucks from the dealer - he gave me a break). With the dummy key, I zip-tied it to a "special place" under my car for another such emergency.

Good luck!

You can buy just a key for the door locks - without a chip inside that will start your car. Its like 15 bucks cut from the dealer!

You do not have to repeat yourself twice , in a row.

I thought the chip WAS needed for the car to start? It would make more sense if the dummy key only allowed someone to open the doors and not allow them to start the vehicle.....

I need to research this....

dude, just go to the dealer with your vin number/acura road side assit card, get a 15 dollar key made that will only open your doors. Takes like 5 min. Then keep that key in your wallet and you will never have this problem again.

Locksmith is not that much.
Road side assistance is free $$
There wont be any possible lock problems. You may have to pull your door frame top half back (I used my knee on the door's window sill and pulled the top of the door's window frame toward me). That was just to keep the tight seal. No problems.

i locked my keys in the car a few weeks ago while i was washing my car and i had to call roadside assistance to get my keys. the tow truck driver took a half hour to get there and 2 mins to get my door open without messing up anything on my clean TL. the only thing i got was a little finger print on my window. he tried two different slim jims and he ended up using one that went under the window and pulled the lock up from the inside. if you have AAA go to there office and have them make you a plastic copy of your key for free!!! My spare got stollen when someone broke into my house , its cheaper then going to the dealership and getting charged 70 bucks for another key.

I called OnStar when I locked my keys in my trunk.

5 minutes later I'm driving down the road again.

I'm glad I have that service on my car!

It took 30 mins for the first one to get here just to find out he doesn't have the special tool, then 45 minutes for the next driver to come with that special tool that unlocks from the inside. which didn't work! So after 3 different slim jims, braking the special guard we have to cover the locks, then getting the slimjim which worked stuck inside the door lock for another 20 minutes, the towtruck driver was nice enough to only charge me $30.00

Stupid thing is i swear i saw the keys on the table inside the house, which i did too! It just happened to be they were the 2 unprogramed key fobs and uncut key from ebay which i've been too lazy to get cut/programed. UH-DUH

tru, tru...dud, the programmin takes 30seconds per control and the dealership will cut the key for free as long as you said you bought it from them. otherwise i think is $10.
