K&N replacement filter - more 'humming' noise??

Hey all,
I noticed that the bastards who replaced my air filter in my last checkup broke the side clips. So, I only have the screws. I installed the K&N replacement filter today. When I start the engine, I hear a humming noise (kinda like a vacuum noise) when idle.
It's kinda loud; is this NORMAL? When I open the hood, and push down on the air filter box, the sound quiets down. I've read some other posts that say you get a more 'throatier' sound, but this sounds more like a strong humming sound. Any suggestions to keep this sound to a minimum (like on a stock filter)? Or is this just how it is? Thanks.

the way to check if its coming from the K&N or the broken 2 mount is to put the original filter back in and see. I also have a K&N and 2 broken mounts but my resonator is removed so i always thought thats where my humming was coming from

thanks, yeah, i kept thinking bout it all nite, woke up at 4 this morning and went down to check it out again.
i tried putting the old filter back on, and wouldn't you know it, the sound is still there. I never noticed it before. I put the K&N back in, made sure the screws were on tighter, and the sound was a little less noticeable. It was weird; b/c to test where the sound was coming from, I put my hand in the tube (from where the top of the air filter box goes through). When I made a fist which blocked most of the tube (preventing air from coming in), the humming sound was loud. This translated to me in thinking that the sound was there only b/c it wasn't getting a lot of air. All these thoughts were rushing to my head, but i wasn't processing them all b/c i was still tired i guess.
i guess i will have to deal with it. the sound ain't too bad now. hope nothing is wrong.
now, i am freakin' tired. need that sleep...

If you push down on the side where the clips are broken, and it moves, and the sound changes, it is very possible that intake is sucking in air through the little opening, not through the filter. Not good!
