K & N air filter performance

I am planning on purchasing a K & N air filter for my TL-P, based on comments from others on this site, and friends' experience. I just wanted to broadly poll other TL owners about performance.

What kind of performance gains should I expect on the TL after the install? And does adding the air filter really improve gas mileage? If so, it's definitely worth the $40.

Thanks!

i have the drop in filter and didn't notice any gas increase. As far as hp increase does feel a lit more responsive but i think its in my head. maybe 1-2hp gain to the wheel.

Don't do it! It's totally psychological. I fell for it twice already on my previous cars. It's not worth it! Even if it is for real, the hp/torque gain is sooo minor that you won't notice it at all. Spend that $40 on a nice dinner with your significant other instead. Okay, this is the last time I'm going to talk about K&N filters...

where do i get the k&n filter? i need a new filter..my stock is getting dirty. I dont want to get CAI because of the loud sound. I only enjoy loud intake sounds on gs-r (b18c) motors.

Get it; If you plan on keeping the car over 2 years it pays for itself because it's completely cleanable and reusable.

I'm totally with RR on this one. If you are gonna go with the drop in filter route, I'd go with Comptech's foam filter. The only reason why I went with a K&N style was that the CAI filters didnt offer a foam filter, unless you go with Weapon R short ram, but that made sooooo much noise during idle (humming noise...like someone warming up their wind instrument and holding it on a single note). Sounded cool in person, but for the long run that might drive me crazy.

I've heard the same about that humming noise with the CAI filters...that's one reason I want to go for K & N. As for the question as to where to buy: They're available throughout the country at several major auto parts stores. To find some close to you, you can go to the K & N web site. Just PM me for the link as we're not allowed to link on this site. I ordered mine through Murray's Auto Discount, they have the model (33-2133) available withing 24 hours if you pay ahead of time.

If they were available on this site, I'd buy it here to support the site.

Well, one of us is definitely confused. The CAI filters are only of K&N type.

The only person you've proably heard that from is Road Rage himself. But...that only happens if you remove the resonator no?

K & N FILTER PERFORMANCE

The horsepower/torque gain is minor. Since I replaced the stock filter with K & N shortly after I got my car, not sure whether it gets better gas milage or not. Magazine such as Import Tuner does Dyno tuning tests every month and most of the tests show that the horsepower gain below 3,000 RPM are minor even with a an open cold air intake unit. I got the part # from K & N email reply then order the filter from Summit Racing.

Remove the intake resonator at the same time, this will give you more gain.
