I believe the timing interval for these cars is 100K Miles, so we in canada have another 60K KMS to do :-)

I just rolled 100K KMS myself...

what are you talking about .. ?? 100 000miles = 160 000km .. here in canada they suggest 100 000km to change the timing belt.. mine was done at 160 000km ..

Straight from Acura Canada's website...

84 mths/168,000 km Replace Timing Belt and Inspect Water Pump

http://www.acura.ca/AcuraEng/Owners/...=0&odoDisplay=

Where'd you get 100K KMS from? An ambitious dealership or some mechanic who thinks all cars are 100K KMS still...

To his defense, it does state in the 2002 TL manual to change the timing belt every 100,000km (ie "severe" climate in Canada). I was going to do the timing belt change but when I checked the website link above (this was close to a year ago), the information was updated to match the US distance of 100 000 miles (160 000km).

Perhaps - I would hardely call our southern Canada winters "severe". I would think that's northern Canada...

Typically, they replace the timing belt, water pump and belts. If you are thinking about a UR pulley, have them do that at the same time. Cost for everything but the UR pulley, about $600.

The stealership will charge you 629$ CAD for the whole timing belt/water pump thing.

Since you're from MTL, I don't know if you hear of ADB Autosports. I called the guy they, they would do it for about 140$, but you have to buy the parts yourself. SO it comes up to about 400-500$. I'm due for the timing belt too, that's where I'll probably get it done.

I would agree with you 100%. How much different is the weather in Windsor than the weather in Detroit, MI? (Detroit is actually NORTH of Windsor) That's why I could never understand why all of Canada fell under the 'severe weather' service schedule when a large part of the US is north of southwestern Ontario. And what about Alaska? Glad they cleared up the air and updated the website to address this issue.

I'm not due for the timing belt change for another ~50 000km but I will most likely get an estimate from the Acura dealership in London VS the Windsor Honda dealership. For me to drive to London (2 hrs one way) ... if it's the same price, then I will make the drive up ... for some odd reason, I don't trust those Windsor mechanics too much ... that dealership tries to scam me into extra things that aren't wrong with the car.

I just called acura and honda for the timing belt. here are the results in canadian (hamilton, Ontario)

Honda = $ 654.09 (they have the parts in stock)
Acura = $ 870.00 (the parts have to be "special ordered")

anybody know what the difference would be? they both had the water pump and tentioner in their price
Anybody here that can do this job for me??

Anybody know if the motor (is second gen and third gen the same?) is an interference motor? Will the pistons hit the valves if the timing belt breaks?
Thanks!!

I changed my 03' at 125k... My Honda dealer put all new belts and new water pump for approx $700 w/tax. This may be the 1st car that I'll take take to 200k or more otherwise I probably wouldn't have done water pump too...
