Exclamation Just got Pulled Over for my Inspire Tails

Well, just a few months into having the clear tails on, I finally got pulled over tonight by one bored but cool Deputy. No harm done, but he was kind enough to explain to me why the blinkers had to be YELLOW and how technically you cannoty change the lenses. Oh well, not month's end, so no ticket. Time to get yellow bulbs tho.

yellow bulbs for the tails are hard to find cheap. Only japanese companies make them as an aftermarket part I think. I just spray tinted mine red because I did not want to blind people with the clears.

maybe, but cheaper than a ticket. This deputy works MY neighborhood, so I know he'll be watching for me. He originally said my "brakelights" were glowing white, but obviously he was mistaken.

Damn that sucks that you got pulled over for your bulbs. I changed mine to red(around 10 bucks each) and I like them a whole lot better than the super whites.

I got the red Polarg bulbs and that's legal. Unfortunately, I paid like $20 for them.

I agree, ambers are totally legal and that's what Acura will use for the TL-S. Also you can find them at any autocar part store for like 2 bucks.
Does anyone have a pic of the red blinkers, because red blinkers are legal in Hawaii and that's what I'll probably do......

Bobatimez- My new amber bulbs don't show thru the white diffuser, but blink yellow. Since I did not have the luxury of ordering the bulbs online, I just put in 3357's instead which are available at all autoprts stores. I had to tape a seal around the base so it would stay in, but it will get me past the "friendly neighborhood deputy"
ShoofinTL- Ed, Thanks for the link to the new bulbs, I will order some ASAP to replace my temporary bulbs.

hmmm, I wonder if you ever have your blinkers going in the night and some guy rear ends you, if he can use the excuse that he was blinded by your blinker and that it is illegal and get away with it when you two claim insurance???

just a thought...

actually i heard a story exactly like that about a year ago on the net. i think it was in VA and this guy with clear tails got rearended. the cop gave the ticket to the guy with the clears because by law they were not red in color and can be mistaken for some other kind of light. i think it happend in the day time and according to the story they were not visible enough to give proper warning. anyway his insurance not only failed to pay the claim but dropped his insurance policy. he ended up getting nothing to repair the car with and i think it totaled the car.

Personally i think clear lights are about the stupidest thing anyone can put on a car IMO. (altezzas are a different matter) and what is even stupider is when someone chooses green or blue lights to put inside the lenses. the other day i saw an integra with clears that actually had blue lenses over the area where the light comes out. they make laws about the way lights on the back of a vechicle should be. the laws are used throughout the world. some kids insist on making their cars into a big TOY! while at the same time confusing other drivers of what their intentions are. yesterday i saw an eclipse that had switched his backup lights with his turnsignals. the backup lights were down by the license plate. not only were they in the middle of the bumper but not visible from the side at all and were white. i also saw a civic that had switched his brake/park lights with the turn signals so as he drove down the road at night the turn signals were on all the time and when he would use the brake they would light up orange. WTF just leave the stupid lights alone! what the hell is wrong with factory? damn kids Grow UP!

ok i am done venting now

I tried red... but when it blinks it looks pink through the lens so I've got the yellow Polargs (M1s or whatever).

I saw a car whose lights were ultimately stupid. Every single light on the car was on. Not just on, but if there was a bright/dim, it was on bright. So, if and when he turned on his turn signal, you couldn't tell. When he would hit the brakes, you couldn't tell. Ridiculous. And some people complain about HIDs coming at them...

Amber directional bulbs shouldn't be difficult to find at all. If you want to buy them locally, try a Honda dealership. The '01 Accord has clear plastic over the
directionals, and uses amber bulbs.

In a few months it will be a true cake walk as the '02 TL-S has JDM spec tails.
