Just got hit!
hey w/ all those weird engine problems like the "bounce" and the strange idle sound, I figured you would have wanted a total.
may want to consider using the money for another car and selling the way it is.

Sometimes starting all over is nice, but there's no fun in that!
And also, I don't wanna have to deal with trying to find a new car and all that other stuff, especially at this time. If they did total it, I would've just deposited the money in the bank, and if I decided on buying a new car, it wouldn't be a luxury car - something basic / not more than $3k.
Rajca, I still plan on making the meet.
sorry to add this pain but if you were in Miami and you came to my shop this is what it would look like
- Rear right door - dont know i have to check
- Front right fender - $135
- Front right headlight - $100
- Front right foglight - $120 for the pair
- Front Bumper - $260
- Hood - $300
- Right-side paint job - $750
These prices come from a few TL's we've fixed from the auction and shipped to the bahamas, puerto rico or any eastern Caribbean island

What the heck, now they're saying it is a loss and need to establish its value!!?!??! This is ridiculous.
Is there any way to convince State Farm that it's not a loss?

Well, it was fun while it lasted guys.
Time to move on...estimate came out to over $8k. Based on what they've offered, I don't end up losing that much.
Hate to go, but hey...it's just a car. Good thing I don't mod.

State Farm told me due to state law, I can't buy the car back...if I would've had an '00 or earlier, I could've. Regardless, I wouldn't have bought it back just to part out or get it fixed anyway - don't have the time or patience.
The number they gave was more than what I paid, but if you add the maintenance stuff (105k & other stuff), I lost a couple hundred, so to me that's not that bad.
Rockstar21, I have 1 ticket on my record (no seatbelt).

you cant buy it back? what are they going to do with it? thats BS! i'd get it back and part it out. especially since you know the market for acura parts will be good with you being a zine member and all.

[...] according to the Illinois Department of Insurance one cannot normally keep a vehicle after it has been declared a total loss. [...]
There are two instances though in which IL law does allow a vehicle owner to retain their vehicle after it being totaled:
1. if the vehicle has incurred only hail damage that does not affect the operational safety of the vehicle, or
2. if the vehicle is nine (9) model years of age or older.

Anybody need the Helm manual, some O2 sensors, intake resonator, mid-muffler, or a defective '02 air box you can fix, hit me with a PM...or check the BM soon.
better hope the right frame isnt bent i had a collision at low speed my headlight was trashed along with hood and fender at first it was a little over 2k to fix then they discoverd my frame was bent and that brung the tottal to 5500. allstate insurence went up 75 bucks.
dannnggg how many miles did you have on the car? my car was hit back in march of 07 had 65K miles on it. 13K worth of damage and after labor total cost was 16K! and they didnt even declare it as a total......
That sucks man...but im really not surprised that the estimate was that high. A lady pulled out in front of me, i managed to swerve and just get scraped (minor to the point that when the car is wet you can barely see them) on the drivers side doors and rolled the fender a bit, and the estimate was 715 bucks.
But like you said, its just a car, and you were able to walk away from it. Thats the important thing

Already got my check & already bought a new car. The TL is long gone.
I had a similar accident in my 07 TL-S w/ 24K miles. Insurance estimate came up to $14K (~4500 parts, remainder in labor).
My insurance had to pay the bill since the other driver changed his number the day of the accident.
Since it wasn't my fault, they said they wouldn't raise my rates; however, 3 weeks later I got a letter saying my rates were going up due to a speeding ticket I picked up 2 years ago.
