It's finally time.

Hey guys! Finally killed my trans. Took 4 years of abuse so I can't complain or act shocked it happened. Going with AV6 swap but changing up a few things with it as well. Got my trans for 750 with no core charge or return which made me very happy as I will now have a backup trans once I rebuild. The invoice said it has 50,600 miles on it. I found a delete for the crappy "warmer" on top of our trans I will be installing. This also provides an output and return line for installing a cooler. Also adding an external filter as well. Changing out the rear main seal, new filter on trans and also new temp sensor since when I was unloading the trans it slipped off my little pallet and landed on it. Seems fine but I am not taking any chances at all.

Are you installing it yourself? What happened to the trans?

Gotta really pound it. Every green light is a race. Plus I pretty much maxed out on mods too so I was doing lots of testing with each new thing added.

MilwaukeeDave Look at the gear indicator cover. If I remember from when I did mine, you have to use the old one. The replacement Trains indicator didn't work right...
just a heads up....

Good luck over easter working on the project. I like your idea to add the cooler.

I've got a ton of parts assembled. All new gaskets for anything that comes off. I'm really thinking that removing that shitty warmer will help a bunch because heat is the enemy I don't think there's any reason to warm up trans fluid that'll already warm itself. Putting in a real cooler should help. I'll be sure to take pics of everything.

Trans is bolted back up. Just need to fix a connector that pulled off then I'd like to paint my subframe with some POR15 to make it nice again before I install that. Still gotta throw on the cooler as well as some new ball joints and a swaybar link.

The warmer doesnt add much heat, In fact i think once operating it actually helps cool, and like (I) mentioned in the many threads before, fluid temp isnt the issue with these trans. Monitoring the fluid temps, it never gets abnormally high, even on my track days. The fluid temp will spike in the 3rd gear drum (something we cant monitor) during shifts and honda had shown something like 300 deg C but the overall fluid temp in the trans stays steady. I had a cooler on 4 failures, trans fluid temps did drop, but it still doesnt do anything to aid in the lack of cooling to the 3rd gear drum. But that is my

It's AV6 so that issue should be solved, no? 07 BAYA.

Here's some tips for anyone who has yet to do this swap. First thing is definitely drop suspension and axles on both sides. To get subframe out you need to take off radius arms plus the intermediate shaft blocks some trans bolts as well. Second, the brackets from the TL trans should be swapped over as well. Many harnesses clip onto these and will hang loose without them. The dipstick as well. I used an engine hoist which was a life saver for this job. Since I have a TL-P I had speed sensor to deal with. I got a 1/4" brass barb and 5/16" for the other. One is threaded internally one externally. This way I won't get any leakage or issues later. Here's some pics to help.

nice job Dave!

Hey Skirm, I can give you a recipe for destroying a TL trans in short order.
Back in the day, some may have used it to hasten the free warranty replacement,,not me of course,,mine went on its own!
Now its used to wear out the trans so you can justify the upgrade DIY!

Doesn't take much to overheat 3rd gear clutches, as fsttyms1 noted above = our weak spot
Those familiar with motorcycle wet clutches have seen the construction before, stacked thin plates!

Yea, it should be solved. But i was just referring to the cooler helping, as the trans fluid was never really an issue

I can definitely agree with that. But I am hoping that a cooler DOES help this one out. At least for 100,000 or so lol.

avoid dropping new trans from 3rd to second at max rpm, when trans fluid is hot from mountain road fun in SS,
or dropping from 5th to 2nd several times at freeway speeds.........

that prolongs trans lifespan,,,the opposite would shorten it- (ahem cough cough)

Doesnt seem like there is an issue with them, so getting that many miles out of one shouldnt be an issue
