Issue with control arms? upper or lower?

Hi Guys,

I had changed my tires a while back and had put the old rims in the shed. When I was cleaning it out I noticed this with the tires. Any idea what may have caused this?

Originally I thought it was a bad alignment which I had done but then I noticed some noticed the inner wearing was uneven as I rotated it.

The picture is the same tire from the passenger side. I pulled out two so far and both the passenger side front and rear had the same symptoms. I have to pull out the other two tomorrow to see how those look.

A friend mentioned possibly bad bushings in the control arms? Thoughts?

Passenger side - Not sure front of rear

Passenger side rotated about 90 degrees or so - Not sure front of rear

2003 TL-S with 122k miles at the time these wheels were taken off. I forgot how many miles were in these Yokohamas before I took them off the car.

Some more history. The extra wear is on the inside of the tire. Replaced shocks and springs at around 80k and had an alignment after install Tokico Illuminas and H&R OE Springs... I am pretty sure these were the ones but I have to check but this was a couple of years back.

When was the last time an alignment was done. If it was a few years back that is probably your issue. Just because a vehicle drives straight doesnt mean that the alignment is good. Wear on the inside of the tire is usually a Toe issue, wear like that is usually a worn out shock. Have an alignment done and have them check your ball joints and shocks.

Alignment on the set of tires above was probably 18 months after I had installed the new shocks and sprigs. I had been riding in those tires for about 6 months prior to putting on the new shocks.

Yeah, get new tires on the front along with a check of the suspension and steering components. Once everything's tight, get an alignment done.

Could be that the tires were not rotated or properly inflated. Check the rod ends and wheel bearings for play. Shocks should still be good since they were recently replaced, IMO.

Thanks. Wasnt sure what would cause some parts of the same inner wear to be a little more or less than the rest of the tire. I checked the other 2 tires and it is about the same. The other two were the driver side front and rear.

whats your negative camber read after alignment?
anything more then neg 1 degree starts eating tire edge
more than 1.5 to 2 degrees neg camber and you can plan on accellerated edge wear
Forget to do the alignment once a year?,,leads to more edge probs with lowered cars
the shocks-springs settle a little and alignment off

Guess who recently looked inside wheel well and found grunge from upper control arm bushing
Looks like new part is required, will be cking our sponsoring dealers for one

Point being- go have a look, then jack each wheel up and ck for bearing play
or find a quality align shop who will do all the inspections you need to find the real problem
