Interior light questions
I've done a search on interior lights, but still have a couple of questions:
- Most of the suggested bulbs claim "whiter" but look like they do this with a filter. Are there any that are actually whiter AND brighter but do not generate more heat? Has anyone tried the LED 168 bulbs? I'm not so much interested in matching HIDs as better light.
- How do I actually go about replacing the bulbs? I looked at a couple of light covers and didn't see screws or anything - just a couple of slots. Is it really as simple as prying off the covers with a screwdriver, or is there a special tool?

Yes, it really is that simple to remove them. Use a tiny screwdriver, though; don't scar those covers up. I got the PIAA Xtreme 168 wedge bulbs for the map lights, and doors, and they are MUCH brighter, and MUCH whiter. I am very happy with them. I'm not sure if anyone has figured out the vanity lights, yet, and there are many options for the dome. Good luck, I hope this helps.
I got some LED and some PIAA Xtreme White 168 wedge bulbs to test, and I was
disappointed in both
:
- Despite SimTypeS comment about the PIAA lights being "MUCH" brighter, they are actually slightly dimmer, though it is true that they do look much whiter.
- The LED lights are even dimmer, probably about half the PIAAs.
I ended up replacing the map lights with the PIAAs and the door lights and license plate lights with the LEDs, but only because I already had the bulbs. I would not recommend any of these bulbs if you are looking for brighter light, though they do look whiter. I am still looking for something which will be as dramatic as replacing household incandescents with equivalent wattage halogens - a BRIGHTER and whiter light.

Polarg
I've heard nothing but good things about Polarg. A lot of people recommend them over any other. I'm getting them in the mail in a couple of days, so I'll be able to tell if they're much better than the others.
