LOL at changing spark plug wires.

I want him to get a flat on his way to work for an important meeting. Then we will see if removing that spare, and roadside assistance will help him. I guess his roadside brings spare tires since he doesn't have one. haha

What octane level do you guys use. I dropped from premium to midgrade recently. I see/feel no difference in engine sound or performance or gas mileage.

Acetone will not harm your car. It may help clean it if you throw it in as an occasional cleanser, although there are many things (seafoam) specifically formulated for that. I did it a number of years back on my college accord (over 300K miles) it maybe changed the mpg by 2 ( I know because I obsessively trend my mileage) just as any FI cleaner would.

The punch line is that unit IMO. Some company touts it as beneficial and if you buy our fuel tracker (that box) it will show you how you're engine is doing. That is my thought because you can find these websites selling their unit at the bottom of a story about how acetone makes engine run well, and "you can see it right before your very eyes with our new gas tracker 2000!" lol.

Just keep your car well tuned, like that guy! tires, AF, Plugs and premium unleaded.

well you may not feel a difference, but there is one. our cars are actually equipped with knock sensors so when you do put in a lower grade fuel, it will automatically adjust the timing etc. and compensate so you don't really feel the difference. but our cars are designed to run of 91 or higher octane, so to make sure your getting the best performance out of your motor just use 91+ octane.

the difference between 89 and 91 is 10 cents, 1.40 for a tank. i'll pay the 1.40 twice a month and not worry about misfirings and bent rods

how can you not ! i can tell the difference between 91/93 ... i get a bit more punch at the throttle wit 93.

03aspec... good call about the knock sensors and timing adjustment.

a lesser engine would deffinetly let you know it doesnt like what you're feedin it

Dear everyone using 87-89 octane,

Please sell your TL. The car was designed (made) to run on 91 or 93 octane. Acura did not make it a suggestion, just because it says the car will adjust to it does not mean it's ok to run all the time. Over time it will cause damage. If you read before and after that part, it says IF 91 OCTANE IS NOT AVAILABE, and USE 91 OCTANE at next fill up. It's as simple as that. Buy a car that REQUIRES 87 octane if you can't afford it. All grades of gas are expensive, why make your maintence/repair bills more expenisve using a lower grade of gas.

Everyone complains about the price of gas, but nobody is changing their driving habbits to see an increase in fuel economy. I get 410 miles to the tank and still have 2.5 gallons left.

-Keep your fuel system clean (seafoam, regane, fuel injector cleaner, tier 1 gas)
-Inflate your tires properly and check alignment.
-Keep unnecessary weight out of the car (junk, subs)
-Keep all your fluids topped off and clean (tranny, coolant, oil, brake, PS)
-Use 5w20, 0w20 5w30, 0w30 synthetic oil
-Use cruise control whenever possible and increase/decrease speed with it instead of hitting the brakes and gas
-Between 40-70mph in 5th gear is where the best mileage is achieved, below or above that uses significantly more gas.
-Accelerate slowly and steadily, when you see a red light or stopped traffic take your foot off the gas immediatly. You get 0mpg when stopped, so avoid being stopped.

Heavy rims, speakes, subs, boxes, amps, weigh the car down and will decrease mileage.

Ahh ok..I guess since I bought mine in March 07 I have not had any long highway trips with a fillup. Typically I put in $30 which used to get me to half way, but at $1.35 a litre it's less than half now.

BTW, My wife uses acetone and has for the last 2 years.
In her Accord, mpg went from 27 to 36 on the highway
and 20 to 24 in the city.

I use it in my TL but only see about a 4mpg increase.

Say what you will, but if we stop using it for just one tank
we will get the old mpg numbers again.

I was able to do that but doing one thing: going slow. The thing that makes the biggest difference in driving is going slower. Getting 500 miles out of a tank isnt easy but it can happen just go SLOW.

People recently thinking going slow will give them more miles per gallon; that is true, but doing so you are creating yourself another problem, in fact creating problem to public in a whole. why so, well without the oil crisis, people used to complaint about traffic congestions making them wasted on the gas. Now, those drivers that are going too slow are really creating more traffic congestions, and traffic congestions lead to accidents. If you go 60mpg, another person will drive 55mph, and another person will drive 50mph, and so on, that is how traffics get congested.

If those slow drivers choose to save gas, please stay on the right lane. As long as you don't drive like crazy, you are saving gas. You don't have to drive slow to save gas. Drive as normal like you used to, and deal with the gas price. It is not going to do you any good with mpg for driving too slow. How about taking the bus, save gas, save money, and help the polution.

Would you pay 3 dollars/gal for gas and drive 5 hrs to go to work, or pay 5 dollars and drive 30mins to work?

Are you serious? This is absolutely false. If anything, speeding up like a madman, only to slow down again when traffic thickens, is itself what causes the traffic, by causing and perpetuating a "wave effect" in the flow of traffic. Generally, people are like cattle. When they see an opening in traffic, they don't have the foresight to resist gunning the throttle to use up the available space, and that's what causes the problem (and wastes fuel). When one dingbat slows down, the next one behind him slows down a little more, and so on, until you have stopped traffic (not to mention crashes). In Germany, they have variable speed limits on their highways, which are monitored by cameras and adjusted accordingly. They are also maniacally enforced, to avoid exactly such problems with "dumb" traffic. By enforcing a speed limit which is lower than the highway's normal speed limit, when necessary, they actually speed up the flow of traffic. It's been proven and works. Here, they'd rather just have our heros in blue hide in the woods, and write tickets instead...

Didn't I say "don't drive like crazy, you are saving gas". If you drive like a madman, I don't think you are in the traffic, you are in the hospital by now.

I have been in Germany, as well as Europe, left lane is for passing only, and you will be pulled over if you are blocking traffic on the left lane. Regardless if you are at maximum speed or not, you do not block left lane, period. I was pulled over in Germany for staying on the left lane, cop recognized that I was not a local driver and told me to stay on the right lane.

The point is to keep up and flow with the traffic, if you can't, then don't stay on the left lanes. Dont just stay on the left lane and set 60mph or even at 65 on cruise to save gas. Just drive your car as normal and safe as usual like when gas was under 2 bucks. Gas will get higher and higher, what would be your next move for saving gas? push the car on the freeway when traffic is jammed? How about turn off your car on freeway, turn on emergency, stand in traffics for 5 mins, 5 mins behind no big deal, right?, when traffic is clear ahead, then start driving slow, don't have to break, and that will save a lot of gas.

I am down with what my man ChriQ says, Premium fuel, tire pressure, proper fluid levels, and no junk in the trunk.

We drive the S, so we have to "pay to play". You guys can fill 'er up with what you want, but I'm not going to settle for anything less than 91 octane. (Gold or V Power)

*Va. residents please note, I drive 70 - 80 mph on the highways around here, so all slow drivers please stay in the right lane, so I don't have to hit my brakes and then wait for you to get outta the damn way!

Here in NY doing 60 on any highway/expressway will get you killed. Even the right lane at times goes faster than that. With all the merging there is a lot of hitting of the brakes which would negate fuel savings by going slower.

I try to take the road with the least amount of traffic so I can cruise around 70-72ish. For 3mpg less, I'd rather get to my destination a little faster and safer.

Oh yeah! Thanks for pointing that out; I forgot to mention it in my rant: The left lane is meant for passing slower right lane traffic. In Germany it's also strictly enforced; here, not so much. But, it's purpose is the same in both places. In Germany, and some other EU countries, driving is a source of pride, and taken much more seriously than here in 'Murica. People DO drive like cattle in this country. To me it's sad, and needless traffic jams and accidents are the result.

I also believe (just to continue ranting) that semis should NEVER be allowed in the left lane on the highway...ever, for any reason...except for when exiting on a left hand exit, or if the right lane is completely blocked by disabled vehicle(s), or whatever. The fact is, they cannot keep up w/ traffic on the up-grades, and they'll virtually run you off the road to make up for it on the down-grades. God help you if you're a motorcycle; they don't even recognize you as a vehicle occupying your space on the road--maybe more like a bug in their grille! There should be 10 foot high crash bars above the left lane, so that they CAN'T hog the whole highway. I think this actually is a law where there are three lanes...well, it should be for ALL highways w/ more than one lane of travel per direction. Bottom line: These bastards should always stay in the right lane.

I also have a big problem w/ self-important (however ignorant) blockheads who won't (not CAN'T, but WON'T) let you merge into the right lane at highway speed, from an entrance ramp. They're morally AND LEGALLY wrong!

Well I do 65-70 and people dont get pissed. It used to be that doing that would get you run off the road but since gas prices went up a lot of people are doing this as well.
