Question IMPORTANT question about MUDGUARDS

Hey guys this is kind of last minute and may sound like a silly question to some, but...

If you were going to get your entire TL repainted to stock color (really repainted, as in the $10k paint job)soon (as in you're dropping it off at the shop TOMORROW), and you currently had mudflaps, would you keep them on or would you take this chance to take them off? Thanks ahead for ANY input at all!

The shop would and should take them off before repainting your car, and then put them back on afterwards.

Buddy if you are actually getting a 10,000 paint job, they are taking the car apart and repainting EVERYTHING...... they will/should take your seats out, doors apart, trunk gutted....

What the heck... for ten grand they should pull the whole body apart, lift the engine and paint the engine bay, sand it and build the car again, literally..

If you are getting a really expensive paint, chamelion for example, then they might be able to charge that price, but still they would have to change the colour of everything, then they run into the situation of pullingeverything apart again....

I'm sure you don't go spending ten grand without doing research, but please share... what are you getting done for ten grand? If it is the same colour, I would say shop around for other quotes... a couple/few grand would suffice for a repainting of the same colour.

Oh, and to teh question, keep theflaps off

That would be a paintjob worth half the cars value.Doing that I hope the car is paid for.
And yes I would leave them off and buy a kit for it since ya spending 10 grand whats another 1 grand.

i agree thats 1 hella paint job. they better be pulling EVERY thing off and painting EVERY thing inside and out for that price!

and keep the flaps off all they Do is cut into the paint and expose baremetal any ways!

thanx for the opinion bud sorry, it's not actually gonna be exactly $10k, they estimated around +8k and yes that includes labor and parts and all that. what happened is that it's covered by my insurance ($0 deductible). they are painting the entire car exterior(not engine bay and interiors, etc.) because it got keyed all over and had the "3.2TL Type-S" badges ripped off (free debadging? ). it sucks i'm gonna be apart from my baby for about 3 weeks but hey, im tryin to look at the positive, FREE COMPLETE PAINT JOB!! i cant wait to get it back, its gonna be perfect NBP again even gonna get rid of any minor scratches it already had, ya know? so anyway now that i explained the whole situation, if anyone has any insight on the mudflaps or the paintjob or any similar experiences, PLEASE fell free to comment here THANX AZ

THIS JUST IN: i just got off the phone with the shop-

now, as most of you may have noticed, ive been meaning to debadge the rear anyway, and since the shop has to remove all the emblems to paint, they asked me which emblems i will want back on: which debadging style should i go with? i know i'm keepin the "A" and taking off the "3.2TL Type-S" but should i keep the "A C U R A" or not??? sorry so many questions, this is all happening so fast.

Mudflaps are -- IMHO The ACURA and the A symbol should stay.

I would shave everything it looks really clean when that is done, especially with a complete repaint, you will never even know anything used to be there. Plus I would lose the mudflaps, although be ready to clean tar and crap off of the side of your doors frequently because it adds up in a hurry!

My opinion, take off the mudgards, if u want to put em on later, paste them w/some rubber cement so that they dont cut into the paint. Leave the "A" and debadge everything else. Might as well get some things inside painted as well if you want. ( )

no notable "side effects" to not having the mud flaps? (i've had them since i bought it) anyone against removing them? i might go with just "A" and "A C U R A" any other suggestions?

remember the "A" has two holes for it to mount in... If is comes off the paintshop would have to fill the holes prior to painting...

so if the paintshop is asking what do you want put back on, the mean the type-s, the 3.2TL and the ACURA, not the A..

Just my

If it's a top-end shop, then it should be okay to leave them on, but if you're worried, take em off...

Question

OH OH OH i was asking the shop if i could come by and pick up my headlights/taillights once they take it apart and he asked why and (as most of u know i've been "MEANING" to clear the headlights and smoke the reds parts of the tails) i explained to him so he said sure about the headlights and that he can smoke the red part of the tails for me for FREE!!! i explained that i ONLY want the red parts smoked and NOT the upper clear halves, he said they'll spray the reds with the same NBP paint and clearcoat the whole tails. i still hadnt decided if i was going to go with the tint or the spray to smoke the tails but i think i'm definitely gonna go with this now, what do you guys think? also, is there a "clear" or "white" diffuser thingie that i can put in the headlights to replace the orange ones?

I have mudflaps on my 2002 TL-S and they dont look all that great, BUT they sure do keep the water and dirt off the side of my car. In my neihborhood, every corner has some water running across the street - hard to avoid it.

damn now i'm re-thinking keeping the "A C U R A" i dont know if i should go with simply the "A" i know it looks cleaner that way. okay, here's the image for you to imagine:

02 NBP Type-S with all tinted windows, ebony interior, navi, on dubs (i KNOW some of u hate on 20s, dont worry about it, point taken), dryvin by with the system thumpin(JL amp & Alpine Type-S 12's) and all i need to fill in is whether i'm goin to remove the mudguards for a cleaner look, smoke out the red parts of the tails, clear the headlights and may or may not insert clear diffuser, and debadge the rear leaving only "A" and "A C U R A" or if i should just keep only the "A"

man i cant wait for the finished product i just gotta decide on which options i'm gonna go with

HOLY CRAP!!!!
10K paintjob?
thats crazy,, if they do a 10K paintjob and dont take off the mudflaps.. i would so laugh..but dont worry, if its a GOOD shop, they will strip the hell our of your car, from your side moldings, to your bumpers, to your emblems.

for that price, they better do a DAMN hella job on your car, and make sure they dont mask the shit off like the moldings or the trims, beacuse you dont want no under/over masking on your 10K paint job
just my

and pics after

oh. and leave your mudflaps on, beacuse if they scratch the car while putting it on, they will fix it

I would take them off.
Give them to the paint shop and tell them to paint them.
Then I would probably leave them off.
I never even got my mud gaurds from the dealer.
If you start getting too much crap on your fenders,
you will have them and they will be painted.
Then you can put them on if you want!!
