Actually, a lot of us here agree about your assessment. But since the car is fantastic in many other ways, we learn to live with such minor imperfections.

You know, I have the bowling ball trim, and it's not as bad as it looks in pictures. I was even to the point of really liking it.

However, when the sunlight hits on it directly and the whole interior of the car is illuminated, it does not look that good.

It looks better in low light....

(No - I won't go there)

When I test drove, I wasn't too thrilled with it either (ugh fake wood)....but now that I have it, it definitely grows on you - I changed my mindset from "fake wood" to "stylized plastic" - lol - and there's really so little of it - four narrow strips - in fact I'm wondering if I should have gotten the steering wheel...

I am glad to see people changing their opinion as what started to be some idiot comment that first referred the ebony black trim as a "bowling ball" look and has since stereotyped that term on this discussion forum.

I remember first seeing the "bowling ball" trim in a CL-s at the Toronto auto show two years ago and immediately hated it. This was a first impression. Why can't Acura just put in the normal wood? However, it is growing on me. If I really can't stand it and want a black interior, I can always get a regular TL.

Is there any kind of kit to replace/cover it up? It would probably be a hot selling kit if it exists.

Fake wood is fake wood. Whether it's brown or black. The less you have FAKE wood trim the better.

If so many people don't like the bowling ball trim, why doesn't a company make an aftermarket replacement/covering? Does anyone know of such a kit?

I don't understand why so many of you dislike the black trim. A similar looking trim is used in a bunch of other high end cars(Audi S4, Lexus LS430, Jaguar XKR just to name a few). I know that the trim in the Lexus and the Jaguar is real wood, but the trim on the Acura does look very close to the real thing. I personally would buy the black interior just to get the black trim.

WOW!. FAKE LOOKING WOOD PLASTIC about 1 milimetre thick so that you can GLUE more of it onto the dash and other areas permanantly to give you the aura of thinking you have real wood in the car?

REALLY! Get up and smell the coffee.

I have actually grown to like the Blackwood trim also. Actually more so than the stock fake wood trim.

Raptor,

So you are happier looking at black matte finish cheap ass plastic?!? C'mon, I know the "wood" is plastic, but I have the whole kit and more to boot, and I love it! That cheap ass plastic makes the interior look exactly like an Accord.

Did you know that the MB CLK430 also has the bowling ball trim? However, I think you can pay more for the wood colored one. F*cked up if you ask me. The point is, don't feel bad, there are people spending $50K-$60K on a car with the same trim.

I think Brushed Alum would have been a nice option.

When I test drove the new TL I liked the Black trim. I have a 2001 TL, if anyone wants to trade trim with me then I am up for it. If its possible, I dont know if it can come off the doors.

We do not like the blackwood either. I think the Parchment interior looks great. We're chooing interior first, then exterior. Most likely we will get the WDP w/ Parchment.
