Ignition Switch Failure - Recall?
Hey all, first time poster. Just recently came to have my '99 TL. These forums are great.
Anyways, a couple months ago my car just shut off on the highway and wouldn't turn over. Sure enough, ignition switch. Some $200-300 later (not sure off the top of my head), all was well and I had a new switch. Things are now fine.
I just recently stumbled upon this site and have been gobbling up all the info possible (you all are crazy with the knowledge). One of the first things I did was search my issue and behold, the ignition switch is a known failure and a recall was issued on '99 TL's.
I plan on speaking with the dealership, should I prepared for any double talk about this not being covered? Am I entitled to a refund? I knew the previous owner of the vehicle, and they said it had not been replaced to their knowledge.
A further question, if it has been replaced under the recall, is it prone to failure again and is the recall redundant, infinitely replacing failed switches?
Thanks guys.

Im not sure about Canadian cars but the US versions had a recall on the switch. If you paid for it at the dealer you probably shouldnt have. It should be covered unless its been replaced before.

If the recall was never done, you should have got it done for free when you went in. Call and register your car (if Canadian owners can do that like we can) and ask them if the recall we ever done.
Thanks for the replies.
As for registering the car, because I'm a neglected Canadian, I can't register my car on the http://owners.acura.com/ with simply the VIN, and the Canadian version requires an Acura Client ID (and the VIN)? I guess I have to call Honda/Acura Canada to get that, as I certainly didn't receive one not being the original owner.
I'll update after dealing with the dealership. It's certainly $300 I'd rather have in my pocket.
