I wish I'd have read this before installing headers...

There's this brand of high-temp coatings that is good for reducing the bluing on headers. Check this out from their site:

-----
6. What can I use to stop Chrome Headers from Blueing or Ceramic Headers from turning brown?

Use a can of SP-101 White FlameProof Paint sprayed inside the small end of the exhaust system prior to installing the headers. Spray one can down each header. Do not worry about how it looks just try to get it to run down the tubes evenly. If it drips out the other side that is good. Clean off any over spray immediately with a strong solvent. This will virtually stop ceramic headers from browning and the bluing on chrome will be reduced to a ½ inch or less.
-----

If I'd have heard about this I would have sprayed my headers prior to install. Well, at least you guys getting new headers will have the benefit of this.

Here's a link to their site.

Sounds pretty interesting ... Can the stuff be bought locally in stores? Only bad thing is its $10 a can and you need 6 cans.

The only real advantage though is that the headers don't turn color and look nasty right? It won't allow the headers to last longer or offer improved performance right?

It sounds like you just have to coat the insides. I don't think you'd need 6 cans. If you're smart about it, I'm sure you could do it with one per side - or maybe even one can for both.

There's no sense in letting it drip everywhere...

BTW - I don't know if it can be bought locally. I would also imagine there are other extremely high temp coatings/paints that perform a similar function.

I imagine it wouldn't affect performance at all. However, if you've ever bought headers (i.e. chrome or stainless), when they're put on they almost look like jewelry for your engine. You want them to stay as close to that as possible.

For $20, it might just be worth it.

you guys probably never heard of jet hot coating. they coat the headers with a special material inside and out. it gives them a sort of chrome look, it ads performance, and absolutely no color change. its a bit more expensive than what u guys are talking about.
