I think I got a TICKET
Ok I was lost and I ended up on the 73 N freeway which is by Laguna Niguel/Hills area and tried to get home going to that freeway. It ended up to a TOLL LANE which was FASTRAK only and they had cameras up top. Everyone kept going so I went too. I didn't get pulled over or anything but will I get a ticket from this? Its a weekend and I was there like around 6:40, hopefully not
Fastrak lanes have cameraS that are on at all times
If you have a fastrak box- sometimes the reader doesnt pick it up and 2 or 3 weeks later a ticket arrives with pics of your lic plate and car/face of driver
In that case you call them and say-look me up I have a pass, its paid for this month- they dismiss it
Lets say you dont have a Fastrak pass and blow thru the lane with everyone else who does
In 2 or 3 weeks you will get a ticket for failure to stop and pay toll...its $100 here- check your local court they will know fror sure
There not much fighting them but- you either had money and were totoally lost- from out of town etc. and got stuck in a bad lane - plead your case to a judge,
Or you are a scofflaw who doesnt mind the rules, could go either way
Good Luck

its a little over $100. $129. I have Fasttrak and I got one via the method that 01tl4tl was taking about (the sensors didn't pick up my Fasttrack trasmitter).
I actually take the 73 alot as my girlfriend lives out near Irvine.

Yeah, toll roads are privately owned and they're not too happy about people not paying. Here in Texas they usually flag your license plate and don't send you a ticket until you've done it 4 or 5 times. I have a Tolltag so I don't have to stop, but every once in a while the scanner doesn't pick it up and it looks like I ran it; I've gotten two bills from them saying it was like $25 per violation, but I just called and they just deducted the original toll amount from my account.
It could be worse, you could be one of the people who do it all the time and end up owing ridiculous amounts of money. They caught a lady here recently with $35,000 worth of fines from using the toll road without paying. Jesus, that's enough to buy a nice car, I don't mind tossing in 75 cents.

ha, when i was going to atlantic city, the highway split up, and had one side with tolls, and the other side didn't have anything, so I just took the other side with no tolls, and got a bill for $25 like a month later
The same thing happened to me when the 73 first opened in the late 90's due to my unfamiliarity with the toll road. As well, 2 years ago I attempted to get on the 73 at MacArthur and only had a $20 bill. The machine wouldn't accept bills that large and I couldn't turn around as there were multiple cars behind me. I had no other choice than to pass through the toll gate. In both cases a very bright flash went off when the smiling backside of my car had its picture taken.
When I received the tickets I called the phone number provided and explained exactly what happened. The operator checked my license plate's history on the toll road. If it is your first (or very infrequent) incident all they will ask you to pay is the normal toll without any fine.
In fact, I think you can call them in advance as their records are updated very quickly. And, it's always better to be proactive. Their number is (949) 727-4800.
Please let us know what happens.
