I Need Some Major Help
I recently bought an Acura TL 99 with 90K in May for 9500. Just yesterday I fell asleep at the wheel (Long hours at my job) and crashed into a fire hydrant. Bad luck right.... Well I got the estimate back from my local auto body shop and the damage is 7k. Broke the suspension (most of it) in the front left tire, killed my rims, broke my front left axel and tie rod, quarter panel is smashed and front bumper is broken with a dented driver's side door. Now in your opinion Should I:
1. Fix the car pay for the damage (Is it worth it)
2. Sell parts of my car (Part my car out) and buy a new vehicle
3. Sell the car as a whole as is for someone else to use the parts and buy a new vehicle
Right now I have 107k miles, excellent condition and maintained at Acura for its whole life.

Is it insured? or is insurance going to cover it? 7k in damage teh insurance company would most likely total it

Guess it depends on if you have teh money to fix it, and how much you really like it. Id be inclined to get rid of it myself

That $7K quote could be reduced if you try to find junkyard parts (since your TL isn't new anymore, it couldn't hurt) or use aftermarket parts. If you'd prefer to sell it as is, you won't get much. At least try to fix the mechanical problems, get the suspension intact, and let someone else tackle the more expensive body repair. Again, this will mainly depend on whether you can find cheaper used or aftermarket parts as opposed to new OEM goods.
Personally, I wouldn't hang on to it mainly because it is over it's 100K mile transmission warranty.

My i bought from auction
I have purchesed mine in SK, Canada on the SGI auction for 3,247.00 and it is 1999 with 100,000 km on it. It was hit in the same place but not as much damage. Although, my bags blow and that's the most expensive stuff, so if you decide to depart with your car we can make a deal.
So far it cost me about $2,000 in parts and$2,400 in labor. Plus i still have to put about $1000 in parts. Hopefully i will enjoy the car and have fun with the car.

First off, I bought the car in May for 9500 cash so the car is completely paid for. There was no frame damage, so the car doesn't have to be bent back in shape or nothing. No engine damage, barely any cosmetic damage (only really on the left front quarter panel. So the car is completely intact other than the axel, tierod, suspension and wheel.
In my opinion that doesn't completely mean that the car won't drive the same. The most expensive part like zalishchyky said is the airbags at 2000 dollars to repackage them. You also have to buy a new chip, controller and seat belts (I don't know they told me the seat belts are electronically controlled).
Second, This quote was done with the fact that I have no collision in mind and its my friends uncle. Doesn't mean he isn't overcharging I am just simply stating that he tried to work the numbers as best as he could see fit.
Third, if I were to part it out where would I start do I just start selling my parts seperately on ebay?

If you had collision, the insurance co. would total you out, if its ever more than 50%, give or take than the value of the car, its generally not worth fixing. You paid $9500, plus the $7000 to fix it, you now have $16,500 tied up into this car. If you fixed it, and sold it, you'd get what, maybe $8k, so it cost you $8500 extra to drive that car. Where as you sell it, for like $2500, take the loss, and now you are out only $7000, give or take. Wither way your screwed, parting it out would be a bitch. Also, get a few other estimates, $7k in damage and its just suspension, look at getting aftermarket stuff b/c that'll be like 1/2 the price of OEM. Just my .02

My had even bigger damage because the frame was bend. I had a great body mechanic and he did a great job for much less, so i can't see that to be that much. Parts are bitch especially air bags, though they should not run you more then $1000.00 with everything. Check www.car-part.com, i am still looking for mine but that's the place where i would go for it. I would not part with car, fix it and drive it because this is a relieble car. You won't get nothing good for $8000 and this one even if you drive for a couple of years will still hold it's value. My humble opinon. Good Luck

I asked the guy how much the parts were and he said including the airbag the parts and including paint ran to around 4 grand. So... I am thinking that if I bought parts myself I could lower that price down quite a bit.
