Was partying in Hollywood the other nite, and the parking lots were all full so I parked in this dark street. The next morning, I noticed a key mark all the way from the front fender to the rear wheel... undoubtedly from some drunk punk(s) up to no good!! The key mark is especially bad on the rear door, cuz it goes all the way down to the metal, so I want to get it fixed...

Can anyone who has had to repair vandalism on their car give me an idea on how much it is to fix? Does the shop repaint the entire door panel? Or do they just touch up the area involved? I'm assuming insurance covers vandalism, but with the deductible, I'd still be paying most of it...

 

Dude, I'm so sorry to hear that. I have been subject to ignorant assholes TWICE. On my acura, someone keyed from my right rear quarter panel, all the way across the trunk, and down to the other quarter panel.... 400 bucks even to fix, but I think they cut me a deal since my car was already in the body shop after my accident. On the other one, my old infiniti, someone keyed my car in three different places, and it cost me about 300, and I took it to MAACO.... LOL, I'm so glad I sold that car, the paint basically started to go brown!

 

Listen, with a bottle of touch-up some 2000grit sandpaper a bottle of Scratch X and some wax you can get that back to a point that only you could find the damaged area. I fixed a foot long, down to the metal, scratch in my TL-S, and its much darker than your car. It takes time, and the only other fix I'd personaly accept would be a repaint of the whole affected side by a good body shop, deducible being the determining factor.

 

that sucks man, it happened to my tl at a country club on 4th of july. It depends how deep that scratch is, you might have to take it to a body shop. It was 800 for me to fix it, but have insurace pay for it since its vandalisum. My rates did not go up, just have your insurace company do a comprhensive claim since it is vandalisum. Good luck.

 

My car got keyed - a "7" on the rear door panel. The body shop painted the two doors on one side. Not sure if they blended the rear and front quarterpanels. It cost around $800 I think.

I think vandalism is covered after the deductible. If you're doing that, might as well see if there's a used body kit and get that painted and installed on the insurance's tab. At the very least, get the shop to paint the engine covers and battery cover.

 

Thanx for the replies... I do want to take care of this soon before the exposed metal starts oxidizing. Will prolly take it to a body shop in the next couple weeks and get an estimate. I'll check back with estimate and hopefully pics...

 

Dude, sorry to hear that. Mine got keyed on the 2 left doors. the acura bodyshop wanted $700 to paint the doors. Then they touched it up for $60. You can hardly see it.

 

man look i dont condone it. its happened to me. then i realised its because i used to care so much about my car, that other people got jealous. its human nature. people want what they cant have. and if they cant have it, they sure dont want you to have it either.

heres my advice (and i know youre laughing at me, but you know what? my car aint scratched) take it easy on the love for your car. its nice we know, we own one as well. just dont make it the center of your life, and all of a sudden people wont care so much, and they wont want to damage it cause they know it wont hurt you if they do.

My car was keyed twice also. That was 2 years ago and have had it painted twice. I can still tell where it was keyed after some aging on the paint.

 

i got keyed on top of my trunk...letters F and U, sucks...i tried scratch x and it took off some...now it's more like I and L...i hate it when stupid punks mess with your car...hope everything goes well for your fix...
