Question I can't decide

Im looking into buying a new car so that I can shut up all of the shit talkers from around my way who think that honda civics are God's gift to the race world. Im trying to decide between a Nissan Maxima and an Acura TL, which I just started looking into. I don't know too much about Acura TLs, so can somebody help me out by telling me what they think about TLs. Thanks

Well, this IS the TL board, so most of us will probably say we luv our cars. The Maxima is a good car, but ugliest rear end on the road. And its a little on the small side inside. The TL type S has luxury AND speed. Its an addictive combination!

I recently purchased my car and the Maxima was one that I also looked at. Once you do your research and test drive, there should be no doubt that the TL is a much superior car.
You should also look into the Lexus IS300, BMW 3 series, Audi's, VW Passats, Accords. These were on my list as well.

The Maxima is a good car too....if you like a manual transmission, then the Maxima is the only alternative among the ones you mentioned.

Oh but wait, remember that the TL-S will be coming out in a 6-speed manual transmission I think around fall. Ahhhhhhh, thinking of selling mine to get that.

I have my Uncle's Maxima while he is in Europe so I have been comparing the two. I find myself driving my car more. It's nice but it just doesn't compare. I would recommend it ONLY if the TL is waaaaaayyyyy out of your budget.

There are a lot of features that TL has over the Maxima including SportShift which makes mine more fun to drive. It's definitely more of an investment and a better value.

Okay, if you want an automatic. Go with the TL. The Maxima doesn't have sport shift and only got 4 speed.

If you are looking into a manual 5/6 speed, then it really depends.

Do you need a car right away? If so, go with the Maxima. A friend of mine got the Maxima 5speed with Supercharger. That was a fast car!!!

If you don't want to mod your car, or at least don't want to SC it. Then wait for the TL-S 6speed.

Just my 2 cents...

Honestly, the Maxima has more interior space and a manual tranny that's available in the current model. It also has its trademark Nissan avant-garde styling, if that's what you like.

Other than these things, I think the TL really has the upper hand. Sportshift, 5-speed auto, a more luxurious interior, navigation system, VTEC, HID lights, the Type S option, the list goes on.

That was THE ONLY reason why I considered Maxima when I was shopping for my car. The stick shift was pretty tempting... but in the end, I realized Tl is a lot more comfortable to drive. Besides, TL has 2 more hp than Maxima. Go test drive both and see what you think for yourself.

I thought the Maxima has 2 more hp... 227 compared to our 225. The non special edition has 222hp I believe... too lazy to check the website for now...

Ya... 2k Maxis are 222, the 20th Ed. Ann... 227 due to muffler, the I30's are 227 (same mufler as the AE ed.)

Last gen was 190hp from the 3L ... they are sweet engines, "Rev's like no other engine this side of a Ferrari..." Wards, it did win best engine for like 7 years....

I was originally planning on getting a 4th Gen maxima... Actually I'm still contemplating, I love the TL tho too... The Nissan is reliable, but I don't think it will be quite as reliable as the TL... I need my next car to last through college (at least 6 years...)
They are semi comparable...
SE/GLE vs. TL
Both have leather, both have 200W BOSE,
heated seats, sunroof, Auto Climate, etc.

Advantages to Max, slightly better gas mileage (compared to 99 TL, not 00)

Adv. to TL, HID, Nameplate/prestige, better resale, nicer ass end
:got me: lol
