How to Remove Third Brake Light Housing

As we all know, the search isn't working well. How do I remove the third brake light housing?

Take out the rear seats (bottom and back), remove the two bulbs from the housing (you can get to them from the trunk), then sit in the back seat facing backwards and push up on the front of the housing and it should snap up and out.

i dont think u have the remove the rear seats. i just put a screwdriver (flat head) in between the rear sub cover and the carpet like plates on either side and turn the screwdriver 90degree and just pull the whole sub cover off (dont forget to undo the 3rd brake light bulbs)

^I think thats what your talking about

1. I remove the seat back but NOT the seat bottom.
2. You do not need to remove the bulbs. That's just asking for them to break. Simply open the trunk and unplug the 2 cables going to the bulbs. They are just plastic prongs -- squeeze and pull, lol.
3. Lift/pop up the front of the housing and pull towards you. It comes right out. Do the opposite for installation.

*If you have window tint be VERY careful when you remove and re-install. The housing will most likely hit the rear window and you can very easily scratch the tint.

Removing the seat is not necessary.

Ohh...I don't want to remove it permanently. I just need to do a couple of things and then put it back.

Alright, now that I have taken it out, I can offer my suggestion for the best way to remove it:

Step 1) Unhook the two bulbs

Step 2) Pull off the cover to the car seat bracket (just open the lid and pull it off)

Step 3) Unbolt the bracket (it's a 12mm)

Step 4) Stick a screwdriver under the panel as shown above and turn (do it on the left and right

Step 5) Lift up the front of the panel and pull towards you

It's supposed to be bolted down? LoL. Whoops. I've taken it out a dozen times... I guess the first time I put it back I didn't re-bolt it.

The bolt isn't for the cover, the bolt secures the latch (?) for a car seat. But the latch itself gets in the way somewhat when trying to remove the cover. Its much easier to remove the cover with that out of the way. The bolt secures this:

Great information. I need to remove the cover to clean the window in front of the brake light as it has some built up dirt.
