Here's the link from the FAQ section on how to install a CAI. The instructions start by explaining how to remove the resonator.

Thanks 99WDP,
Is the significant noise increase when removing the resonator? How much louder during normal driving (city/highway) and how much louder during hard acceleration?

If you are seriously considering removing your airbox, spen a few hundred dollars (if you can afford it) and slap on an intake. Its not much more effort, considering you will already have your bumper off. The increase in performance is worthwhile IMO.

I'm still debating if I should even pull the resonator out. I used to have a turbo Integra GSR with massive horse power..a few more ponies on a TL just doesn't feel the same...so I thinking of leaving it as is for comfort..it's my big thing now. I'm over the "go fast" phase.

Well, its nice to know that you can still "go fast" in this car when you suddenly feel the need for speed I dont know if just removing the resonator box will help alone. I think that if you wanted to do just that, you may also try a drop in K&N filter to help airflow as well. Every little thing helps.

Instead of taking out the front bumper, can I take out the wheel and remove the wheel well cover and get access to that resonator? It seems simplier that way (at least on my Integra).

hey

taking out the resonator is really easy. Remove the drivers side front wheel. Then remove the little push pins that hold in the inner plastic covering then you will have 3 brass looking bolts remove them and pull down on the resonator and off she comes. The only problem you might encounter is the bolt farthest in the back but with alittle feeling around you should get it. I just took mine off 2 weeks ago and the only difference that you will get is when you get the engine over 4000 rpm its sounds alittle more throatier. On idle you only hear alittle vacum noise nothing major only if your standing by the front headlight. I think its better than spending 250$ espeially when you don't have it. And the sound is kinda cool

fASTCARZ,

That's good to know because my resonator will be taken out this Wednesday. So the noise is not a issue huh? I will be adding a comptech hi-flow filter too(thanks Bitium, despite our arguement). So how do like it?

Okay, lots of debates about noise etc, i finally decided to take out the resonator....via the wheel well way...don't know about the pre-2002 models but mine is a 2002 and it is a ***** to get to the top bolt (there are two bolts on the resonator)...anyways, that thing is HUGE..I thought the Integra was big..this thing is twice the size. I also used the dremel and take out that fake driver side air duct (the small one right under the factory fog light) for more fresh air to come in...should be better than before..I hope I ordered the drop in K&N...can't wait for that baby to get here..hehe

Pretty much same deal as everyone else. I took mine out last
summer. For a while I thought it was too loud and decided to put
it back in. Well, it took all of 5 minutes to realize, it didn't feel as
peppy at high rpms and there wasn't much of a noise difference
for most driving. Next day I removed the resonator again and cut
away that fake air duct thing. Love it, free mod.

I removed mine this last saturday. The responsivness of the engine seems better but no ovbious power increase. I was actually expecting the engine to be louder than it was after the removal. But it sounds much better IMO

Did anyone remove the tubing section that was connected to the resonator?? mine seemed to be a little loose so i attempted to pull it out but it was too large. So i just stuck it back up there and just said **** it! works fine so far. :smokin:

I removed everything..the whole resonator and all tubing associating with it. THe only thing left is the airbox (where the air filter resides), and the intake tube that connects to the engine itself.

I wouldn't remove the tubing, it's not worth it. Otherwise, you're
just pulling air from directly under your air box, which is still
in the engine compartment. If you do want to remove it though,
you don't need to take off your bumper, just remove the air box
from the top and pull all the stuff out with it. You shouldn't ever
have to take off the bumper for intake stuff. Just wheel, intake
box from top and inspection shield (top and bottom). But totally
leave it, it won't fall out, it's bigger on the top.

Not true..if you look again, the resonator resides not in the engine compartment but in the wheel well, which is being separated by the frame of the car from the engine compartment. Taking the tubing that connects to the resonator will allow air to be directly taken from the wheel well (outside air) instead.

Dude,I just did this two days or so ago. May be 02/03 model is different? We are talking about the RESONATOR here...not the stock airbox...resonator is below the stock airbox, reside in the wheel fender well...
