I cannot believe how many of you young guys (18 to 30) own these cars. There is no way I could have afforded a car like the TL before now and I make good money.
Jeleous, yes, but more power to you young guys.
BTW I am 38.

I see too many kids piss every dime they have on a cool car, but don't have any long-term goals. Buddy of mine works for a the largest credit card company in the world and he is amazed at some of the debt that kids still in college have amassed.
If that's not you, congratulations, you are on your way.
Let the flaming begin. Oh BTW I'm 32. I've been through the debt woes before, never again. Maybe that's why I'm so opinionated.

I DO... I DO!!!!At 25, my car is paid for (paid cash by myself at age 23), my insurance is paid for the year and I have one hell of a savings (for my house- when ready) and plenty put away for retirement given my age.
We're not ALL irresponsible, if I was I would've bought a much more expensive car, but I went for overall value. I couldn't justify spending more on a car when I don't own a house yet.
I'm not trying to brag, just assuring you that not all young people are irresponsible. Maybe you'll feel better knowing that.
Bought my TL when I was 28. Still owe money on it since I never put any money down on any cars ( I think it's bad investment but still enjoy playing with it). Currently own a house, looking very actively for second, but too freakin expensive in the Northern VA area but have to suck it up since I'm looking forward to having kids next year. Money in the bank is irrelevant to me since I know I will want to give it all to my kid when I have one. I enjoy my life and feel very fortunate that I have a very good job (and got lucky with the stock market over the last couple of years, and some Pre-IPO/Stock options from past jobs). BTW, 29 now turning 30 soon

. You'd be surpised that some teenagers are quite responsible. I have a Capital One credit card (not under my parents) that is designed for high school students. I'm pretty proud of the fact that I take care of it and my parents don't. I pay off the balance every month (19.8% APR
) and I'm on my way to good credit. I think its cause of the way my parent brought me up. My family has never leased a car, we've always bought it. My parents don't have a morgage, they bought the house. After talking with my friends I guess this is pretty unheard of nowadays but I hope I can do this in the future (the house is pretty unlikely for me though). Ehh ten more years of fun before I have to worry about the 'serious' stuff in life
.Edit: I hate when you put simleys in () and it turns an (
) into (:eek
. Oh btw, I'm 16.

I tell ya, it's a sick feeling when you're behind the power curve, i.e. owe significantly more money than you have. I'm not where I'm comfortable yet, but I'm getting there.
Looks like your parents' great attitude towards money is rubbing off on you!
Ya well, I bought my car with my own money at 20 years old - $10k down, borrowed $23k. I now owe $16k after 10 months of owning the car. I've gotten carried away modding but thats ok, I'm still not too far into debt considering what I make (assuming I continue to make as much
) I should be fine.
I took a chance to get a nice car but I feel like it was worth it! Gotta take chances sometimes.

I love the age breakdown for the poll: every five years up to 40, and then, "40 and older", as if the next 40-odd years of life are pretty much the same!
I got mine when I was about 3 weeks shy of my 40th and, believe me, I've got a lot more money in the bank than I'd ever spend on a car, as much as I love cars. Priorities are priorities; Gotta pay the mortgage and my daughter's tuition first, for the next 15-odd years...

I'm pretty impressed at how many young responsible people there are with TLs. Not that I'm that old or anything (23, got mine earlier this year). But a lot of you are teens that have some plan and aren't just throwing money away on your cars. That's good to see. I probably could have gone another year with my old car but I just couldn't resist the Type S.

I was 21 when I got my TL on 10/23/00 but am now 22.
This poll is all wrong, it doesn't represent real world numbers, b/c most of the people posting here are the younger TL owners looking to mod their cars.

You're right, but it ought to be a good sight to see these demographics and see that few if any aren't as judgemental about the ages are they are in the real world. I mean whether 16 or 50 from old money or driven by hard work you all get along and that is what one really ought to take from seeing a poll like this: The spread of age an backgrounds harmonously getting along with a common interest. . .

34 (but the wife was only 33) when we picked up the TLS.
There's a balance between having nice things and throwing your cash around recklessly - I think the TLS is a really nice ride with a sensible pricetag.
Sure a BMW 330 or an S4 would have been nice, but there just wasn't enough "driving excitement" there for us to drop the extra cash.
