Everytime I drive, but I can't give an average per day that I do it. Just say a lot I suppose because it's there, it's fun, and you can. Some car comes up next to you and you can't help but just start laughing at them, so you be nice and let them get a lil on you and then just stomp on it and fly right by them laughing some more.

I hit VTEC whenever I need to, which is pretty often On highway onramps, while passing, to get out of a crowd (don't you hate it when people drive slow in the fast lane next to someone else?), to get away from gravel trucks, and to scare the pants off of my passenger.

It's fun to get on it everyonce in a while, especially when the road is smooth, a light rain is falling or has fallen, and then turn your VSA off and just punch it and let the tires spin...

I usually hit VTEC when I'm just getting off the ramp on to the highway. The best is when there's someone in some POS that shouldn't be going fast is trying to speed on the ramp and I'm going the limit. Then as soon as ramp straightens out I punch it and let the guy shrink in my rearview mirror.
Sometimes I kick it in VTEC just to hear it....I love the sound VTEC makes.

Hearing those butterfly valves open is a treat even in a TL-P, one that I didn't realize I could have during the test drive (wouldn't THAT have made the salesman s**t his pants if I had done that!?). Because I leave for work so early in the AM, my freeway on-ramp becomes my playground almost daily. It's even better if I start from a full stop at the top of the ramp. I also do the same thing as fahoumh if there's someone too slow on the onramp...I just blast past them, leaving them scratching their head that my "not-very-stunning-looking" TL can go so fast.

Hit 3000 miles today, plan on enjoying the open moonroof in 50-degree JANUARY Cleveland weather....I think I'll go for a drive

The TL-P doesn't have the butterfly valves, only the Type S. VTEC involves switching cam profiles.

I actually went pretty fast around the bends on my test drive. The salesman (and my wife) were wide-eyed, but the he kept saying "you can do it faster, go faster around the corner" while gulping his spit. Funny! I ended up buying the TL-S from a different dealership

Obviously I was mistaken, I had thought that the two engines were more similar than that. Please forgive--I don't (obviously) know all of the technical details... I just know I like the car, and I'm willing to learn about it, that's why I'm here.

When the Type S first came out, I went to take a test drive. At first the guy was reluctant and drove the car himself and he kicked it to VTEC thinking this kid don't have the guts. But when I got behind the wheels, I had the guy reaching for the Oh Sh1t! handles.

I hit VTEC using gear 2 on SS when I am next to a civic.

A powerful engine can outrun a noisy muffler anyday

Depends on what mood I'm in. If I'm Pissed Off...constantly. If I'm in a normal mood...occasionally on the highway I'll open her up.

What?
i think that's what vtech is, it's the butterfly valves, when they open up, thats what cause that whine in our engine, the tl-p has the butterfly valves, and so does any ex model honda...

btw, i only hit vtec on sat nights at bout 1 in the morning, while racing, normal driving, i shift at 1800 or 2000 rpm, people behind me always get fustrated and pass me, but they normally top out a 50, while i just keep accelerating to about 80 (in 5th about 2100 rpms) so i eventually pass them....it's all about saving gas...

vtec sounds so sweet with a SRI

Nope, VTEC has nothing to do with butterfly valves, and everything to do with changing camshaft profiles.
