How many brake light bulbs?

The 'brake lamp' indicator is on in the dash, but I *think* all my brake lights are working. So now I'm wondering exactly how many bulbs should be illuminated. I've got two bulbs in the high-mount brake light working, and one brake light working on each side of the tail lights.

Should there be two working on each side of the tail lights? Two running lights are working on each side, but only one illuminates on each side when the brake pedal is pushed.

Thanks

There's a total of 4 double filament bulbs we have back there not including the hi mount light. They are 7443 for part number. I just replaced all 4 of them after 3 of the 4 went dead in the same day. They come in packs of 2 for 7.99.

I had a similar problem on my CLS. Thought the brake light bulbs were faulty; however, when I checked the brake fluid reservoir it was low, topped it off and the 'brake' light on the dash went off.

Yeah, there's the 'brake', and then the 'brake lamp' dash indicators. My 'brake lamp' indicator is on, however, I did check my fluid just in case, and it's fine. Dirty, but at the right level.

Apparently I had two go out at once, which threw me. If one went out, it would be obvious, but for two to go out at the same time (and cause the dash indicator to come on), I was a little suspicious. Thanks for the info.

makes sense that one side fails, the other cant be far behind!
thats why its good to replace in pairs,, and all of them for brake lights
keeps their brightness equal too

No problem. The brake lamp indicator will only light when the actual brake light filament burns out so you could have tail lights out and not know it. That's why happened to me. Someone on the forum made a good point and said to stand in the rear as you keyless-ly lock the doors and check the lights that way.

Holy crap that's 10 for the price of 2. Can't beat that. I just hope shipping is good to them and they all arrive intact.

I found a 10-pack at O'Reilly's for $14.99. I know the Amazon deal is cheaper, but I was impatient. Still, what I got is MUCH cheaper than AdvanceAutoParts.
