My engine light came on and the code was for the egr which I had replaced. The mechanic wants money to reset the engine light, can't I just reset the fuse or disconnect the battery to do this?

for the check engine light you have to correct the issue... once that has been done open the fuse box on the passenger side... its the back-up fuse... out of state right now so just look on the cover and its like the 4th fuse from the bottom... its a back-up fuse or something like that....

 

Pull the Clock back up fuse on the passenger side dash for 15 sec or so

 

Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will also work just fine. If the code comes back, then the fault is reoccuring, and something needs to be fixed. If it stays out, then you are homefree.
