typically you can get away with a Comptech CAI and a cat back exhaust and the dealer wont say anything. Once you start doing headers or other significant things like pulleys dealers might start giving you a hard time.

Well, I don't know about all dealers ... but my dealer said that any kindof Comptech stuff (minus maybe the supercharger) that I put on the car, wouldn't void my warranty, including the transmission. So putting headers on doesn't necessarily make it difficult to get your tranny replaced.
In addition, the Magnusson-Moss Act (1975) basically says that its the dealership's responsibility to prove that an aftermarket part caused the failure in your car. So in terms of what the law says, the burden of proof is on the dealership to prove that the headers broke your tranny.
Anyways for the Type S (not sure if this will work in your TL-P), the failure is caused by the 3rd gear clutch pack overheating and falling apart. The heat is caused mostly by constant upshifts and downshifts into 3rd gear. Just a piece of information.
If your tranny is working fine however, I don't recommend you try breaking it. You're better off leaving it be. There's a good chance that it might just be fine and you won't have any problems with it. There are some people here with high mileage TLs that are still on their original trannies.

to get it to die faster just drain the tranny fluid out and start driving

two words: brake stands. you'll destroy the torque converter. my friend did this to his 02 so he could get the tranny changed when he knew it was going. worked like a charm.

i heard the same from my dealer... if you stick with comptech parts you will not voide your warrenty so i wouldnt worry about yout tranny in that case.... even the comptech SC will not void your warrenty.....

even if you do mod your car and the tranny blows is it not worth it for the dealership to replace your tranny? do they not get paid by Acura/Honda for the labour?????? or is this done out of the pocket of the dealership?

"Extended cruising in top gear with a high engine load but small throttle opening can result in limited oil flow to second gear, causing localized heat build-up."
Get on the highway towing a trailer in fifth gear. A few hundred miles of that will probably toast it.

HA, that just got VERY expensive. ill just wait for it to die on its own. who knows maybe it wont die at all

my tranny failed after I put in my OBX headers and the Injen CAI. They said nothing to me because those two things do not give the car so much power that it would mess up the transmission. If they do give you that speak, just tell them to prove it. I wouldn't worry about the tranny, just do your mods. If one dealer doesn't fix it, another will.

Drive on SS in 2nd for all your in town commute. It'll heat up, gets discolored, and may eventually break a gear tooth. But why wouuld you want to do this. I thot all the TLs got recall notice?
