Horrible body shop experience.... ruined WW kit...

Well, as many of you know, my upcoming mod was planned to be my WW rear lip. I took my car in to get the rear bumper and my WW lip kit put on this past weekend and got my car back today. At the body shop I took a walk around the car and saw that the paint match was perfect. I stared at the kit for a good 5 minutes making sure that there weren't any imperfections in the paint. The body shop guy said the shop was closing and that I should pay, so I cut my inspection short.

Well, thinking that the place did a great job, I walked in and paid them $600 (cost of refinishing the rear bumper and painting the lip kit) and drove home. My girlfriend, who had driven me to pick up my car followed me home. When she and I parked in the garage, she came over and looked underneath the bottom of my bumper.

Her: "Baby. Does the right side of the lip kit seem to be higher than the left side?"

Me: "What?"

I walked over and inspected the kit. I couldn't spot it from behind the car.

Her: "When I followed you home, It seemed like the left side is alot lower than the right side..."

Me: "Oh god..."

I ran inside and got my measuring tape. Sure enough, the right side was mounted much higher than the left side.

Me: "God F*(king idiots.... God... I'll have to dismount it and even it out myself..."

Her: "Uhm... babe. Did you notice the seam on the driver side of the lip kit?"

Me: "What? No..."

I walked over and stared into the little crack. There was only a small bead of a clear substance... but I saw it clearly. Those bastards used freaking silicone to mount the kit.

At that point I went into a whole slew of curse words. Chances are, they've F(*cked up my bumper and my WW lip kit. Sigh...

I guess there's not much else I can do at this point other than take it in and have them attempt to fix it. But I don't even know HOW they're going to remove the kit now that it's siliconed on. They'll probably have to ruin the paint on the bumper.. which means that I wont have a car for another week....

GOD... Incompetent ass body shops...

Sorry I just needed to vent.

They probably figured it worked on Pamela Anderson so they decided to use it on his body kit.

Update. So I just came back from the bodyshop. I immediately asked for the manager. THe manager came out with me and I pointed out the disparity in a matter of minutes. He then apologized immediately and told me that they'd fix it free of charge.

Then he asked me to explain it to his body work guy. The guy came out and gave me this whole speech about how "aftermarket" products never fit perfectly, and that he did the best he could do. I asked him if the best he could do was us silicone to hold on the kit and he says, "Look, I've worked on alot of body kits alright. And even if it doesn't look the best, silicone will keep the kit on."

So after a lengthy discussion, this is what it came down to. The manager agreed to take the kit off and take off all the silicone on the kit. He agreed to try to adjust the WW kit so that the two sides by the fender hang evenly. However, if his guys can't get it right, I asked him to just not mount the kit as I will get it mounted elsewhere.

Yeah, Pizaul you're right. I hsould've mounted it myself. I could've done a hell of a better than a job than those jackasses.

Lesson learned, MOUNT YOUR WW KIT YOURSELF.

Good luck getting this all straightened out. This is why I'm so weary about getting mine put on. Everyone around here does a half ass job when it comes to aftermarket work.

No one will do it better than yourself in this case. They just slap it on and get it over with. Most of the time body shops don't fully care about the customer cause they have other things on their mind and other cars to take care of. (Unless this is a respectable shop).

It took me only 20 minutes to get mine on, could have been faster if I had another person with me.

I don't see what's wrong with using silicone to glue the WW bodykit pieces. The WW kit is made with flexible polyurethane, and silicone or 3M double-sided tapes are the best choice to install flexible pieces. I have seen some tuner magazines and tuner TV shows in which even the professional installers featured there are using silicone adhesive to secure the polyurethane bodykit pieces.

I don't think its a good idea to use silicone on something that is meant to be removable. Specially for those ppl that take off the kit during heavy snow storms and things like that.

I thought bodykits are designed to be installed permanently. Some people even fill out the seam where the top edges of the kit meet the bumper and repaint the whole bumper+kit to make the whole thing looks like one single piece. Even factory kits use 3M tape along the whole length of the kit with screws drilled into the two ends and also with clips underneath each piece. Permanently installation also makes thieves harder to help themselves to your kit too. Rivets and screws are an absolute no-no because it will show up and look ugly.

So what's the best way to install removable bodykit ?
