Honda ATF DW-1

Apparently Honda has come out with a new trans fluid that is compatible with ALL Honda models...It is supposed to be better than the ATF Z1 we are currently using.
I was told by a friend of mine today that works at a Honda dealership..
I googled it to see if I could find anything out and they are apparently 100 percent backward compatible.

Has anybody tried this in our cars? If so, opinions?

Should I/average person (especially with more torque) get my trans drained 3x3 with this? (in December)?

from reading the fluid is just a thinner viscosity to help aid in better cafe numbers

Hmm, so is there a benefit to using it, slightly better mileage maybe?

do you really trust a change in viscosity vs our trans weak grip on reality as it is...
for a possible tiny mileage gain

cafe standards were bogus and are now defunct- replaced by an even stupider
method- per model iirc
either way, they will do whatever it takes to reach some mythical number
-gen3 got 5-20 engine oil...a tiny decrease in friction for better test results, without regard for the effects of high rpm... and the internal thrashing together of parts at several thousand times per minute,,hour after hour

ANC: if you have lower miles rebuilt trans- try it and let ziners know!

So really, the higher temp and thinner fluid is carp (fish)...
When I get another trans change, they are out of the old stuff, then I get the newer stuff and who cares.

Maybe I will do a 3x3 as the old fluid didn't get completely out - it was a while before its last change.
More HP and torque = hot transmission...

this thinner viscosity stuff is a bunch of horse sh!t. fuel efficiency is honda's number one priority, and seems they are doing everything to make sure they get that extra .01 m/g increase... 5w-20 oil (heard stories about hybrids guys running 0w-10), now thinner tranny fluid. i hope they added some sorta of friction modifiers or something to help prolong the life of our trannys. i dont have a good feeling about this.

Not sure what you mean by this post? But why would you want to run fluid that will only thin out more with heat? If you put any thing in it i would run a amsoil trans fluid or the stock fluid

Ohhhhh, it thins out more...
I thought it was better at lubricating and holds up better to heat...

I would have a hard time changing the type fluids now that I have 143,000 miles. I just do a 3 qt every year and it seems fine...been doing that since my 88 Legend...

you just did a 3 qt drain and refill ???--thats under half the 7.3 qt total capacity of trans
or a full changeout of all fluid ? (have to be careful on use of the word `flush`)

I was making a note of why I was not using the word flush,,, not accussing you of doing one!

so you did 3 qts,,and thats going to stop you from a 100 dollar product changeout?

maybe I missed the logic-- if you wanted to run a new product

Being 17 years old, paying my own insurance, gas, and all repairs/mods on my car on top of working 40 hours a week and while putting money away for school next year, its more than just 3 quarts thats stopping me...But my next trans fluid change will probably be using the new stuff.

congrats on kicking butt in life responsibilities!! seriously, good job on paying your own way, my respect to you

I will admit to an unfair generalized assumption of youth = free rent, spends all the money on lowering, mods, loud tunes and hot babes carried in the modded ride
My apology here in public on that matter--ok?

I dont know your trans mileage, which is my concern going to redline fluid on an older unit with few oil changes in its life
that might result in bad experience and slipping--I dont know for sure, only experience with redline products was the race car- where it saved the trans when drain plug fell out and went an entire season without rebuild.
but didnt save engine when rad hose blew ;( and driver completed 5 more race laps.... all the way to ~almost the end of last lap~ turn 8 of 12!

but if lower miles rebuild unit then go for it 3x3

Thank you, and I do not know the exact mileage of my currents trans unit...It was replaced with the last owner back in 06 I believe...Maybe I will call Acura and find out for sure.

Is redline better in the tannies than the Honda stuff?

Is changing the tranny fluid (3 quart D&F) twice a year bad? (as the cleaners dont do as much and get some better oil in there) - or better than a 3x3 (kill the clutch packs with the cleaners?).

Is there a good hi temp fluid?
