what year is your car? some earlier model of homelink is not compatible with rolling code openers, which most newer genies are.

The TL operates WITH rolling code. look in your manual. there are 2 different ways of programing it. the 2nd way being rolling code method

I have a 2000 TL-p... & a genie garage door opener...

Here are the steps:
1. press and hold the button you want to program until the light flashes (10-15 seconds).
2. press the program button on the genie door
3. press and hold the button you intend to program
4. press again and the door should open/close.

i think any second gen stuff should work i believe the way you can tell if the homelink works with rolling code is the color of the light. red triangle (mine is) = yes. i think the alternative is like an orange circle or something? i may be wrong. anyways you will need to hit the train button on the garage unit and then get in your car and hold it down. (specifics, since these instructions that im writing are terrible, can be found on genie's website or in the manual as well)

I have had this difficulty as well. It turned out that I ended up having to clear all of the old codes out of the homelink before it would program to the new codes (by pressing and holding the outside two buttons for 20 seconds or so untill you get the "all clear" rapid flash).

After I cleared the codes, I followed the procedure listed above twice and on the second time it took.

Hope this helps.

Like Speedy doctor says:

There a button on the back of the door opener you have to push, then run to your car and push the Homelink button for a bit. Check your owners manual, mine says what to do. I had to do this in a condo I lived at. Hope this helps.
