Hit and run...

Someone apparently hit my car when it was parked and the corner of the rear bumper is dented. Should i report it to my insurance company and risk it going up? Or is there a cheap solution to pulling out that dent. It is a 2000 3.2 TL. Any help is appreciated thanks.

you need more posts in order to PM.

a new back bumper plus the painting should run you at least $300-$400

is it possible to just have it repaired, when i looked under the car i can put my hand behind the dent, maybe theres a way to push it out and make it look better. And if i report it to the insurance, will my insurance go up?

This will fall under your Comprehensive Coverage, assuming you carry full coverage and not just Liabilty
The car was parked, minding its own business, =-not your fault, does not affect your rates- thats why you have insurance- to protect you from others who dont!

The problem with big dents on a corner is getting them out without cracking anything, like the bumper cover- its a plastic
Then the paint gets stressed and cracks- it can only bend so much then....
There could also be damage to the actual bumper or its support mounts, all very important to have in the right place should you ever be hit while in the car~
For all you know- the rear tire got knocked and the alignment is out too
These are things a body shop will check- its ok to use the ones your Insurance agent says are known good- or their own shop- you will get more of the parts installed on the car that the invoice is claiming there!!

if you do have full coverage and you have a low ded. just call the insurance co. my comprehensive is $50 so it would be worth it for me but if you have like a $500 ded then you should just get it fixed yourself since it would cost less than your ded....i had the same thing happen to a car of mine but a bit more serious than yours and i didn't notice my rates for up

The exact same thing happened to me. I popped mine out by hand (well actually stepping on it from the inside -- bumper removed). It's even better if you use a heat gun. What you'll be left with is chipped paint. I then had that corner professionally paint blended for about $100. The results came out very good.

It would fall under comprehensive like 01tl4tl said. Collision is for accidents while moving and comprehensive covers those like in your situation. If you come out of pocket, it will cost right around $500. I know from past experience. I would recommend going through your insurance company as well though. Your rates will not go up because it is not your fault. Also, I would recommend going with your insurance companies body shop. They should have a list of shops that are approved by them. The reason I say that is because if you do end up running into a problem where the paint doesn't match or something along those lines, the insurance company will get involved and fix the problem. Remember, your car is supposed to be put back to the condition that it was in before the accident. I ran into a problem where the body shop could not match the paint when they painted the bumper (I can notice it but most people say it looks exactly the same). The insurance company would not do a thing after 2 months of arguing and the body shop (which I once thought was one of the best in the area) said they couldn't do anything unless someone paid for it. So for now my car looks to me like it is 2 tone. Don't let it happen to you! I'll post some pics someday and see what people think and see if they can tell.

Jesus, are you sure some fat ass didn't just sit on your bumper while trying to tie their shoes?

As others have said don't worry about your insurance going up. It just depends on what your deductible is to decide whether you should have them cover it or not
