Yea, I feel that the forum has lost some of its sparkle due to these recent events.
I liked it a lot better when I could just chat about cars and 'stuff' related on this TL Discussion. It just ain't worth my time to look under each and every heading to find the good stuff. I find myself coming here a little less lately.
I think some of the new mods are feeling the "heavy badge" syndrome lately...

It got locked and said moved to Gallery. After the man spends hundreds maybe thousands of dollars can't you at least let him show it off to everyone? I'd hate to come here with a supercharger setup, wanting to show everyone, and then have it moved to the gallery where maybe 1/10 people check it as often as opposed to the TL discussion forum.

I think it is a good idea to let it go to the 2nd page and then have it moved.

Granted if we 'chill' the board will still be up, we'll still all have our cars, but we'd all be that much happier of the mods kinda laid off all the locking good posts. Something tells me that not everyone has the same definition of moderator. They're not gods, they're not even better than us in any way, really. (no bitterness here, seriously) they're just people, members, who keep the board in order.
Look the forum will be good with or without the mods. Tim has set this place up, given us PM's, parts to buy, a bulletin board to post on, a gallery, etc. All the mods do is lock stuff.
If they didn't lock anything, I would personally be fine. It would be even better if they only locked the pointless crap that people just do for attention.
Do you see where I am coming from now?

They move and lock to much stuff. Some people don't have endless amounts of time to hit all the forums. I think pics of anything TL related should stay up on the main forum.

Please explain this suggestion. IMHO if a topic is "off topic" it is "off topic" from the first post not after it gets to a second page.

One of MAIN reasons I'm on this forum and on this site, and probably many other people also, is because this wasn't one of those overcontrolled, boring forums you find everywhere else... but with the "help" of the moderators it looks like it IS heading this way... and I bet a lot of people will agree with me on this...

You talkin' to me?!?!?!
I try to only move posts when they are obviously not meant to be in the TL Discussion,
i.e. Pictures of my naked girlfriend
Now would that go in the Gallery or Off-topic? Wait, if she was laying on the hood of a TL, that might change things.....

Granted I know that we have other forums for their specific topics, but the reason I like this place is because the forum is lively, and there are new topics always being discussed.
You can not deny that a thread will get more views if it is in the general forum as opposed to off topic or tech problems... If it gets read more then there is a greater chance of someone getting the response they want. And we're all happy.
The only reason I see to move or lock anything is if its pornographic, pointless cussing and ranting, or if its a newbie troll.
A few days ago AcuraTL, one of the oldest members of the TL community, the first on this board, and probably one of the first in the states to have headers on his TL back when they cost $1500, posted a thread with pictures of his car. I'd hate to come here with a supercharger setup, wanting to show everyone, and then have it moved to the gallery where maybe 1/10 people check it as often as opposed to the TL discussion forum.
Also we had MSMIS300 or whatever his name was on the forum, Several times say, "I'm not here to pick a fight", and "I like the TL, its a good car". The discussion was, for the most part pretty friendly, and TL owners were saying how they liked the IS, too, but was too little, etc etc. And no one was really flaming, and he was clearly not a troll, yet it got locked.
Let me recap the reason I like to come here: because its TL discussion but moreso because the forum is active and dynamic. If we're locking threads that are intellectual and where people are just showing off what they've just spend their hard earned paycheck on, and letting topics go that read, "I just sold my TL for an IS" and inside it says "Hahaha fooled all of you", or "I just did a Type S engine swap", and inside says "You are gullible" or something of the sort. Something definitely needs to be looked at here.
I personally don't mind the occasional IS owner strolling by if he's gentlemanly about being here. I don't mind seeing pictures of modifications to peoples cars. I do however get annoyed when from time to time, random sh*t, howabout lets upgrade that to random bullsh*t, posts about hahaha made you look. THAT needs to be locked, and its not being.
I emailed Tim about this a while back. Its been this way for a while now. Not that its the end of the world, its just that the TL forum that I've grown to be so fond of is taking a turn for the worst, and I'd rather not be embarassed of the forum that is my startup page, that's the online representation of the car I own.
Some people need to grow up, and others need to stop being so damn trigger happy.

Yeah... I knew I wasn't the only one feeling that this forum has been going down hill...
F=ma has a good point about the moderators roles... keeping the board in order is different than controlling the board and controlling is what they've been doing lately...
How come we haven't heard from the other moderators and snook... come out and speak up in your defense...

All the best topics are posted to a lot and they stay at the top of their respective forum. Lets say I see 10 good topics in the Main forum, 7 good in audio, 5 good in tech probs, 10 good elsewhere, if we had one forum all we'd have to do is look at the first page. It would be all good topics. and all the stupid or stale ones would drop to the second page.
And if we have a lot of infrequent users, and they check the main forum and see all good topics, they're more likely to come back more often, also because we're appealing to a wider range of interests with a single large forum.
If you don't have a lot of time then you come here to look at something specific. If you want to know something regarding audio then you can just jump to the audio forum and look it up. If you want some info on how to install something then go to the install forum. If you don't have a lot of time to read the forum then having all posts in one forum would actually be a bad thing because you would have to dig through all the other posts to find what you want.
If you have more time, then you can go through the forums that interest you. You guys should be happy that there are different forums so you can read what YOU want to read and not have to worry about picking through so many other posts to find what you want.
As for consistency, I agree there is a problem. I have posted about what should be considered off-topic in the moderator forum, but not much interest was taken in the thread. I guess the rule is only TL related stuff, not car related stuff in the discussion forum. The moderators have already discussed being more consistent, but only 4 mods are allowed per forum and they do what they can. There are other things going on in their lives you know.
