hit 145mph tonite

man i was bored so i tried to do sth that i haven't done b4

my previous record is 140mph and that was 2 yr ago, and tonite i did 145mph

i would say after the mods i get to pull faster after 130mph with the headers and intake and it keeps pulling even i let it off at 145mph, i had to exit the hwy ramp so i couldn't do 149mph, but it was good enough

now i am thinking if we can get the TL have a good pull from 110mph to 130mph which is our weakest point

Good job, I'll assume this was on a private highway you rented and took a proper safety course beforehand

My record is 145 as well (again on a private track)

My fastest is 140 on the road but when I dynoed I was at 147 on 4th gear. I know that it is much different being on a dyno but I was surprised to see that I got it that high in 4th.

I thought the Premium was governed at 130 and Type-S at 147.

According to the specs web site, it is.

That sounds about right for the Type S. Like I said on dyno I got it up to 147 in 4th but it did seem like that was all the I could get out of it. I think even if I were to shift into 5th I wouldn't have gotten anymore speed out of it but I would drop RPM's and that's about it. I always thought it was governed at 155 but after reading your post and thinking back to my experience, that seems accurate.

Since the Type-S came with V-rated tires that are good for 149 mph, Acura set the governor at 147 mph. The fifth gear is purely set for highway cruising and optimizing fuel efficiency with the gearing ratio. When you're going 147 mph, you will be in 4th, with about 1500 RPM left until the redline, if I recall correctly.

I dynoed my car in 3rd because it was the closest match to 1:1 ratio (1.02:1 in third) and got up to 97 mph.

tlp is 149 as well.... at least in 2000 it was, maybe when they intro'd the tl-s they knocked the tlp's limiter down for further model separation?

I have had my 2k tlp up to the 149 limiter on I-5 here in cali....

Yeah, unfortunately I didn't do my research before I went to the dyno and it was my first time. The guy running the dyno told me that 4th gear was the closest to 1:1 ratio. As I later found out, he was wrong. I will be going back and running it again to see if I get better #'s. And as far as the tach reading at 147, you were right from what I remember.

In the 99 I don't think there was a limiter. I hit pass 150 with Headers, Cam, Intake, Exhaust, Eagle GSD 3 tires and Vtec Controller.

My all time record ( sparked by a little bit of road rage ) was 135mph on a local freeway in my 00 V6 Accord. I will never forget those (3) minutes or so...they were the greatest driving experience of my life. It wasnt the startest thing to do but at that moment when your adrenaline is rushing some people choose to ignore the potential negative consequences and act on impulse.

Well, shit. Is my car the only one with a (functioning) governor? Mine cut off exactly at 147.

Lucky bastards. I know the car can do 160+ easy if it weren't for the governor.

i was pretty close to 150 on my 99tl too before i ran out of room. so i guess 149 or so would be correct for the limiter.

I'm not making fun of the Premium. And it's 147, I'm pretty sure.

Are you really getting a supercharger? I thought you were going to get a G35?

Well, if you're getting a supercharger, then I've got some competition for ya.

a supercharger = 6-9 months lease payments for the G35c, have to think about it first

see if i really want to keep the TL or not, i still cannot afford the G35 financially this year yet

Are the Type S cams just a drop in mod? Or do you have to redo the timing and all that good stuff too?

it's recommeneded to go a dyno tuning, but 1000 dollar for 10whp and it's not quite worth it compare with headers and pulleys

Sam is right. It's not a drop in at all, it's technically all engine work. They have to redo the timing. XS Engineering down the street in Huntington Beach. The engine labor cost $400 alone, the tuning cost $800, the Cams cost $200. You do the math. ; )

My fastest was 130 last night. I really wanted to push it more, but the road started to get hilly and you cant see downhill, so I didnt want to take any chances. I'll try again soon when its not dark and foggy out. Congrats on the 145er

Good call.

As stupid as it is to go this fast, you've gotta do it carefully.

I can hardly had the car under control after 130mph; but the engine sounds real sweat. I did it at night with my car color being black, I turned off all lights.

yeah good speed to hit....sadly you should've kept going 'cause you missed a hell of a ride

i started the first thread disproving any governors on the TL-p by reaching 153 (i later discovered my actually had a higher tirewall (5points) so i was actually going faster). In any case look for my thread it has pics of a bunch of guys over 150!

for us 99TL i dont think we can go much faster than 160mph because of our 4th gear but those w/ 00-01 can probably go faster....just chug a big 120hp NOS shot!

I wouldn't make more than a very slight turn with my car at above 130mph if it weren't a closed track... our cars weren't designed to be stable at those sort of speeds.

our cars are very stable at those speeds (especially with better tires) there have been many instances of me doing well over 130-140 around turns (freeway and some back road turns that wernt real sharp) and it handled them just fine
