Today my car was reving at around 2k rpms,i unplugged the map sensor and the revs went just below 1k rpms. What does this mean?

does this mean you fixed the water pump and this is an unrelated issue?

or have you overheated the engine enough times that its starting to sieze??

there have been some recent failures of TPS throttle position sensor and required TB replacement

It overheated once 3-4 notches before red,the other 2 times just 2-3 notches above normal. Yeah this a separate issue. I replaced the Map sensor and the idle is back to normal. The only things left to do are, timing belt water pump, rear main seal, ball joint, valve adjustment and clean the iacv.

The overheating and erratic rpm were caused by faulty temp sensor.

So it's your coolant temp. sensor that cause the erratic RPM in your 99TL ? My cousin 99 Tl got the same problem with Rpm going at 3500rpm at stop when engine and outside temp is hot .
