HID Lights

About a month ago someone stole headlights from my 1999 TL (!). I took it to the body shop and got it fixed (got new headlights, bulbs, etc) but now the lights are not as bright as they used to be and the beam does not shine as far as it used to. Plus the light has a yellowish color to it that it did not have before. Can anyone suggest any explanation? As far as I know there is only one type of light bult that goes into that headlight. Also does anyone know where I can get more information/drawing/schematics that would explain all the details around the HID lights?

As for the beam not being high enough, that is a matter of adjustment. But i have heard that Xenon bulbs have a break in or burn in period. When my cousin first purchased his BMW his Xenons were a bit on the yellow side, then they became very deep blue after a little break in. Complain to them and tell them you will give it a month. If it doesnt work, have them order you a different brand of xenons.

I also hear that the HID bulbs are not as bright as they used to be due to complaints from other people that the HID lights are too bright and hurt their eyes (BS! It's all those fake xenon bulbs out there that output so much light and plus idiots who adjust their lights so high up that lights up signs on the overpass). When I first got my 03, they weren't even close to being the same color or as bright as my friend's 01 TL. I just switched to 6000k...cooler color.

There are 2 types of HID lights. The D2r and the D2S. The D2R is for reflector type like our TL and the D2S is for projector type like BMW and Porsche. They are all 4200k. If you want brighter light then go get the 6000k from www.autolamps-online.com

You can get the 6000k in either D2R or D2S. But only the D2R will fit perfectly with the oem light housing. If you want the D2S, you will need to make a little modification to the base to make it fit. IMO, the D2S is a little brighter than the D2R.

Here is a stock TL D2R 4200k HID:

And here is D2S 6000k on a TL:

Technically, I believe the 6000k is illegal but since our cars came with HIDs then it shouldn't be a problem.

Now the problem is that these damn ricers put in those fake a$$ bright lights and have them pointing up to the sky and blinding people.

I had my 6000k since the end of June and have no problem so far. I even stayed behind a cop a few times and nothing.

The 6000k are not DOT approved. Most reputable sites will have that listed. But most cops won't even know...your driving a $30k+ car...not a some suped up ceev-bic with a fat spoiler...I hope

Why'd they steal 99 HIDs They are D2R and it won't fit anything else. The ballast and ignitor are probably worth something, but they'll only fit D2S or D2R bulbs. But if they pick on them, they must have a way to turn them into cash. Damn jackers :flamer:

Apprently the '99-'01 entire headlight assembly will fit on '98-'02 Honda Accords with slight modification.

Slight modification??

Needs to modify front bumper with grille, both fenders, hood, and have to make some space for the ignitors under the headlights.

This requires re-painting whole front end. :o

Look wise, the D2S is a little brighter and bluer than the D2R.

You can meet up with Joey (bdimc2001 on this board) in west orange to compare lights. He has a 2001 TL with stock HIDs and it is the same as the 99. You can pm/im/e-mail him.

Thanks BlackShadow.. For some reason I can't look at any of the member profiles (!) so I don't know Joey's email (or anyone else'). Can you give me Joey's email address? I hope Joey doesn't mind..

Thanks again..
