03 Surprisingly Fast!!!!

Well, I know my new TL has 260bhp, but I never really expected it to do what it did....twice.

I had a mid-90's C4 Corvette (6-spd) catch me at a traffic light the other night....so we ran...we were side-by-side until I let off at 90mph.
Then we did it at the next light....same thing, except I pulled away at 65mph...then I let off again at 90.

Then a couple days later I was driving home from work and some high school "punk" in an early 90's Mustang GT hatchback, with tach on the dash, pillar gauges, meaty-ass tires, and nice toned flowmasters decided he wanted a piece. I stomped him by 2 or 3 cars lengths...his was also a manual trans, as was the Vette. I left mine in D4 full auto the entire time during both runs against both cars.

That kid was pissed, just got beat by a "old-fart car" as he put it.
I happen to think that the TL is one of the most attractive sedans on the road...especially for the money.

God I love Honda.

What's the difference in leaving it in D4 auto than say D5?

no one here said anything about beating a new vette...OK !
So dont go getttin all huffy about it .... Everyone knows that a zo6 vette is the best bang for the buck .... but because everyone can afford one it does not appeal to me and never will.

just to be realitic... I still say any corvette is 13 sec car and would cross the 1/4 above 100 MPH.. in road race the other guy would chiken out and let off at 80 so he is was not reacing after that...

I would love to see any corvette line up with any CL/TL at the drag strip and come back with sometime slips...

CL/TL Type-S is not a V8 muscle care it is just 14.8s-15.2s Car.

Have a good day.

All I can say is I've seen them do mid-12s at the track and most do high-13s and low-14s stock. Those trucks are pretty mean and I sure as hell wouldn't mess with them!

Guys, that model vette C4 has like 225 hp and weighs a ton, you should be able to take it with no problem. There are some "upper" models though but they are rearer.

Funny I remember Car and Driver saying how a Honda Odyssey minivan could out accelerate a C-4. No joke!!! To be honest though I believe they were refering to the '84 model though. But goes to show not all vettes are 12-13 monsters! And yes the '84 had a V-8.

D4 is using the first 4 gears but also will not lock up the torque converter so the transmission will not overheat and avoid gear hunting...

for best results at drag racing...try D3 (0.1sec faster) or SS if u know when to shift...

C4's typically run close to TLS's even with mods look if you search the forum some run slower than that, so its not impossible for TLS to hang.http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=360909

emm... i think my cars pretty fast but never really felt it tho...
maybe its cause i got dusted by my friends supercharged s2000, civic si, prelude, and GS400 with torque converter with variety of L-Tune products... of all my car is the slowest...

maybe i should go pick on other cars...

I'm sorry but anyone who thinks a regular stock C4 is fast needs to wake up. They are some of the easiest prey out there. Them along with the 98 and older mustangs.

i'm shocked you beat a mid-90s C4 6-speed. they can normally run 100-103 mph in the traps in good tune. the guy with the c4 needs to tune up his car of check his condition.

great run anyways

I used to own a '92 Corvette LT1 automatic. It did 14.2 @ 99mph completely stock, and on stock tires. Was rated at 300hp, 340ft lbs of torque. The killer on it was the rear end gear, 2.68:1, extremely long... slowed the car down. So with the right launch, I'm sure a TL-S could hang with one for a little while, but a proper running 'vette of that year should beat it quite consistently.

Check out this site for 0-60 and 1/4 miles on any car.CLICK HERE! . It says a 93 vette is running a 13.9 quater. So it is posible to stay close to him for a few before he starts to pull on you.

Thast a 93 but some of the earlier C4's 84-90 or so are a little different, especially the 84.

The Mustang supposedly had some mods..looked like a 16-17 year old kid was driving it. It sounded mean...couldn't back it up though.

As for the Vette, I just thought it was funny cuz it was a guy in his mid-late 30's, thinking he had a Lamorghini or something. Just wanted to give him a reality check.

Besides, this is my daily driver.

I agree....mustangs of the early 90's were'nt that fast. My friend had an early 90's GT, I had a '90 Nissan Stanza, 2.4 litre 4-banger. Stop light to stop light he would beat me maybe by a car and a half lengths. I guess cause they were so heavy.
