hesitates from a dead stop

Our 99 is just over 100k, and we noticed as of recently that the "getup and go" from a dead stop is non-existent for the first second or so. The motor does not rev, it just does not respond quickly. I am thinking fuel filter, plugs, wires, pcv, injectors, timing, what????

any ideas please post

good question --> idle is smooth

I am leaning towards injectors, assuming they can flow at idle but too dirty to run fresh at higher rate

the reason I assume this is that should the plugs really be at fault, gas would flood a bit with no fire. Once the plugs fired enough to burn off the gas, it would either produce smoke, or at least a collective soot; but neither is visible

with cloged injectors they would all need to be clogged teh same or they would have a rough idle due to 1 cyl not being as efficant as teh rest. if it were plugs you would have a rougher idle or worse mileage and performance.
thats why i first said to check the throtle cable for slack?
even with something clogged or plugs bad the engine wouldnt have any lag time from original throttle tip in unless its not actually opening the tb

Mine does the same thing, its gotta be something like the air control valve, egr, just seems like the air mixture is screwed up somehow. This hesitation only happens after a cold start

gumout fuel system cleaner, new plugs and clean your TB and check your air filter too. do all those things and i guarantee your car will be running better! if still not where you want it, tranny flush, new coil packs or new battery would help.

dont forget the pcv valve. makes a diff. u might want to have your o2 sensor checked. if your running rich for a long long period of time it accelerates the deterioration of this sensor............... then the catalytic converter starts to wear..........blah blah blah
hope u get it fixed

Wouldn't EGR, O2 sensor, PCV valve problems cause the CEL to illuminate. Obviously, that isn't the case for him.

typically if there is a issue with them they would, but not always teh case. a sensor (o2 for instance) could be reading lean (when its not) and then tell teh engine to run rich, which over prolonged periods of time kill the cat. (and its happened) so there could be something miss reading but not tossing a code
