Tranny died on my while driving on the FWY

So this morning im driving on the 405 fwy and all of a sudden my car downshifts to 2nd and redlines. Im like WTF? I look at my dash the check engine light has come on.

So the person behind me practically hits me because of the sudden downshift and im freaking out because my car is redlining. I almost got into an accident.

If i have 79k miles is my car still under warranty? Its a 2000.

i gotta wonder if they have ever specifically found/covered engine damage because of something like this. i can't imagine your crankshaft likes being jarred like that at those speeds.

My question is: Has anyone crashed as a result of the tranny crapping out at freeway speeds? If so, has Acura paid for the damages due to their known faulty transmissions?

acura wouldnt be the only 1 that when a tranny failure happened that dropping down gears would result. ford gm and chrystlers all do the same and they do it more frequently than our POS tranny (atleast chrystler)

Slushboxes just aren't made the way they used to be.

Same thing happened to me in my '99 TL`P awhile back while also crusing on the freeway. Felt a jerk..then VRROOOOOMMM..I believe I was redlining 2nd gear..lights flashing everywhere. Thankfully no one was around me and I was able to cruise over to the shoulder to re-start the car. Weird thing is that it hasn't happened since and the car is running even stronger than before..considering I have put well over 50k since the inccident.

people whos tranny died in the freeways go to the NHTSA website http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...callsearch.cfm fill out the complaint form on the left and let them know whats going on with these cars before someone seriously gets hurt. The more people that file complaints eventually they are gonna have to do something i filled one out lets keep these things going.

just about every one on this forum has filed there already.
you have to remember it doesnt matter what car your driving or where your driving, it can fail any where. some are unlucky enough to have them fail on the hwy some are lucky enough for it to fail in the city. 2 of mine failed on the hwy and i cought them before they dropped down to 2nd and caused possible accidents, the other 2 were in the city. all 4 gave signes before they died and i can gaurentee that if the person driving paying attention to the car, they would notice too. (i by no means am trying to justify hondas problem)
