Exclamation HELPPPPPPP!!! installing ground system

yeah i know...couple threads before...spent at least 1.5 hour trying to search in this forum...but cant find what i really want....PLEASE HELP!!!

I have trouble finding the right connection point. the instruction only says:
1.to intake manifold
2.to engine block
3.head lamp
4.cylinder head
5.alternator
6.tranny
7. and an extra wire i dont know it's from where to where.

So can someone spcifically tell me which points i should connect? picture will be so appriciate.

the connection point i 'm sure is the Intake manifold. the original OEM negative terminal runs 2 wires, one to somewhere around the front driver side headlight, and the other one runs down to the Tranny/alternator? I belive those are the other 2 connect points but i'm not sure which one are them.

I know a lot of pros in this forum. Please help me out. This is killing me.

Thanks in advance

I've always wondered what those ground things actually do.
The whole car is a ground and grounds are going from front to rear to engine to trans. to body again. Whats the point of five or six more "specificly" placed ones?

Jus greater efficiency of the electrical system for the car. Frees up a tiny bit of power, improves engine idle and start up.

I think these grounding points are just points that someone thinks that it's important since they are where all the major electrical connections made. However, I think "home running" all these wires will make your engine bay kinda messy.

I made up my own kits and connected at these points in the pictures. I use black 4 ga wires w/ silver terminals. It is very stealthy. You can't really tell that there are about 10' of wires added.

Just make sure to distribute the contact points to maximize the path back to the battery. These wires sure have less resistance than the engine block or the frame.

After i put in the additional ground wires, engine idles much smoother. I also noticed less whining in the radio and wavy lines on the nav screen.

These grounding kits are well known in the IS300 forums. My wife's IS300 w/ the grounding kit now shift very smooth, almost transparent. Starting and throttle response are much quicker.

I'm also planning to upgrade my negative terminals to 0 and 4 ga soon but havn't had time to do it.

Good luck

Thanks a lot tweedle99

That's a big help.

But can you please help me clear something before i do it.

In your diagram,

#3 is cylinder head?
#6 is intake mainfold
#7 is our shitty tranny

and for connecting them all i need to do is find a hole that can fit in the screw rt??

1,2,4,5, seems to me they are all the frame...???

Sorry i think i'm a retard when it comes to anything about eletricity, but i'm really trying to learn here.

anywas i'm still really appriciate your diagram

Point #4

Point #5

#3 is actually a little bracket next to power steering pump. There should be a ground lead to it also.

#6 Yes, intake manifold. Take off the plastic shroud.

#7 Yes, the tranny, just find a bolt that hold down a bracket.

Easier, find a bolt that is holding something down or pre-existing ground. Just run you wires to those point. That's what I did. I didn't have to buy any new bolts.

You'll also notice that most ground wires in our engine compartment are little 24 gauge or something. Pretty pathetic

Hope this help

What kinda kit did you use? and.. how much?
Do you feel any change after installation?
Looking to get a ground kit from Apexi (appx. $180?), but I don't know how much of change it would give.

Make it yourself. Much cheaper. 4 ga wires are like $1/ft. Ring terminals are less than a buck each. Get about 15' and as many pair of terminasl you want to run. It should cost you more than $40 for the entire kit.

I've heard a lot of those kit only used 8 ga wires.

Like I mentioned before, faster starting, smoother idling, better throttle response and less electrical interference, such as whining radio or refresh lines on NAV screen

Just look for car stereo power cables. 0 ga is too big to route through the engine compartment. 8 ga is too small, imho.

There's a guy on ebay that sell terminals and wires. Lots to choose from. That's where I bought my terminals and wire from. Search for him by the name "bag-boy" His rating is like 16000+. Good guy.

I don't want to post any ebay listing from him since it is frown upon.

yup that is a good seller...I have purchased wires from him before. Tweedle, are all the wires you replaced pretty obvious to see? I mean the stock ones...easy to see so I know which ones to replace. I may want to do this sometime soon for my ride.

I didn't replace any, just add on top of it. I made sure that all my grounding points are all connected in series, which in turns go back to the battery.

I've seen some people on the CL forum make a complete loop around the engine bay. I didn't want to run a wire in front of the engine, which is right above the header. I think it might be too hot for the wires.

The only ground wires that I will replace is the one at the battery negative terminal. There are 2 wires coming out of the terminal, one goes to the tranny and the other one connect to the chasis right next to the battery. I think I'll get an audiobahn terminal which has a 1/0 and 4 ga + a ring terminal connector. I'll run the 1/0 to the tranny and the 4 ga to the chasis.

I did this a while back, along with Iridium plugs IK20 and Helix TB spacer, and the first thing I noticed was a quicker throttle response, RPM's climing much faster thru gears, and a reduction in stereo noise along with better reception.

My set up is with the hyper ground system, and replaced the oem ground wire to the lower part of the engine mount with a zero gauge cable.
