Help! One side of rotor hotter than the other

I just notice after driving my 02TL that one side (passenger) of front rotor is much hotter than the driver side. It was burning hot while the other was not nearly burning. This is after about 10 min of mild street driving and braking. Anyone has suggestions? (maybe the right side caliper bad?) Thanks!

the right side might be hotter either bc its seized, OR doing all the braking while the left one is seized, when u brake does the car pull to a side? just get two caliper from a 95 ls legend coupe. duel piston, better braking and make sure u flush they system.

yep--check both front sides brake pads- comapre the inner to outer pad wear and the left side to right side of the car - which pads are worn out and which look new?
Then see if its caliper sticking on, or not working fully

Many of gen2 are at a time where its due for calipers, especially if the brake fluid was not changed on a yearly basis--old fluid is bad news for rubber seals

the correct legend calipers- same price as tl parts- 1995 Legend LS-C (coupe)
use the tl pads rotors brackets- just the caliper is different-- and way better stopping

The car did not pull to one side or the other when braking. As 01tl4tl said, either side is seized. I agree. I think it is time to change both calipers. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks, Rajca and 01tl4tl. I just found a pair of calipers for 95 Legend LS coupe at Autozone. They cost about 95 bucks a pair.

their dual piston, better stoping. same install as if u were replacing the stock calipers, just have to switch them, left caliper goes on the right side and the right caliper goes on the left side, make sure u put brake fluid in the caliper before u start bleeding.

the parts store is even happy to get TL caliper back in the deal,
there are more people wanting those, than something for a 1995 car-
score for us!

$55 for 2 rebuilt calipers? That's a steal. Is Murray an auto parts chain?- don't have them where I live.

I have trouble finding 95 Legend LS Coupe front calipers in my local auto store. Will 95 Legend Sedan GS or LS calipers fit 2002 TL? Thanks.

There were different calipers between the models- not all were dual piston- as I suspect those $55 a pair units may be single piston~

for cross referance- raybestos part frc10627 and frc10628

try a name brand store and have no trouble at all finding th eright ones

Looked them up through Murray's website- they were higher than $55.
Nobody around here had them, including Napa- had to be ordered.

you wont find tl or legend calipers in stock anywhere- but they are normally just a day or 2 away at the warehouse

there are also different SIZE pistons between the models and years, its only a mm or3 but I went with the one closest together in size
that suits our needs best

if you print out page 3 of the kragen list of calipers for 95 ls-c, and take to store, they will price match
The store list price is higher than 75

When I look at the calipers on partsamerica.com, it says they are $85.99 ($50 core) for each side, not the pair. Comes out to $72 for the pair after core charge is refunded.

some states collect sales tax on the order- like Ca.

72.99 per caliper is what I paid after core charge was returned
They are even happy to GET the TL calipers in the deal!!

Well, I drove for 10 min and then stoppd the car. I felt the rotors with my fingers (careful it may burn you!) on each side. The driver's side felt warm but the passenger side was burning me!
Not very scientifically but it works. I wish I could hook up a thermo couple to the rotor to measure the actual temperature.

Use a laser pointed, non-contact, infrared thermometer 30$ harbor freight tools
Then you can measure hot things with ease- point and read

On pads, I like RacingBrake ET300 for normal street drivers,
ET500 for more aggresive street drivers,
or the old standby- Hawk HPS

Definitely time to flush fluid & replace those calipers. Even though 1 side isn't sticking it's probably been in service as long as the bad one so replace it too.

Yeap, I ordered a paired of 95 legend calipers from PartsAmerica.com ($80 a piece with 15% discount to a final price of about $67). Will replace them this weekend and report the results here. Thanks.

remember- use a small oil squirt can with new brake fluid to prefill the calipers- saves lots of frustration later on bleeding them- just get as much as possible in.

The caliper is the only part you want- take the new bolts and slider tabs (not the big center one-toss it!- just want the new end clips for the pads and the new bolts)

Do not use the legend bracket!!! It only appears to fit... until you find the bolt holes are offset.

On top of each caliper is a big L or R. put the L on passenger (R) side and R on driver side- that puts the bleeders at the top

After install and bleed, do 2 test stops- from 45mph with full effort to engage ABS and shake the brake pedal
Accellerate to 45 and repeat immediatly
If the pedal gets better 2nd time, you had air in the abs controller- rebleed the system and all is well- will likely find air in LF caliper (based on my personal experience)

Bleed order must be follwed!!!!!!-
LF= driver front, then clockwise around the car
LF RF RR LR

Have fun - its really easy job and well worth doing

Vacuum bleeder is a useful thing to have for this job & they're not expensive.

I just did the legend caliper swap last Friday seems like the best way to go vehicle stops like a champ and no more pulsating brakes either.

I just got the shipment of Raybesto's dual piston to go with my 02TL. One of them turned out to be defective (it won't slide easily, looks like someone tightened the nut too much and grease also came out of the boot). That stinks because I can't do the swap until they send me a new one.
So I just need the caliper itself, take the v-shaped clip, and the bolt (to bolt up the bracket to the caliper), right? It didn't come with bolts from bracket to the car.

Thanks for all the instructions.

Use your TL bolts, TL brakes pads, and my same TL clips I only changed the caliper. I kept all the legend parts and put the in my tool box. But I didn't need them. Again my car stops like a champ with no pulsating anymore.

you want the end clips from the bracket- the ones the pad tab ends slide on
and whatever bolts it came with
do NOT use the large v clip in the center of the caliper!!
It does rub on some cars and is not required

Caliper with R goes on driver side! L on passenger side
prefill the calipers with squirt can of new brake fluid to remove as much air as possible.
Will save an hour of frustraton and trapped air bubbles later!

this 150$ mod is amazing- you probably need calipers anyway based on age, and are the same price as TL calipers,

most users wonder why acura didnt put them on the TL in the first place

Upgrade to SS brake lines for even better pedal feel

That's the first time I read that part about this swap- I put them on mine & driver's side scraped the circumference of the rotor. Had to remove caliper & tweak it slightly so it would clear.
