Question Help with offset??

This is what my car looks like now, I have 225/40/18's on my car but because of a rubbing problem I haven't gotten springs. I spoke to Acura and they told me I needed to change my offset. Does anyone have those size tires and doesn't have a rubbing issue? This is what I want my car to looks like. My friend was nice enough to photoshop me an after pic.

BEFORE:

Hopefully AFTER:

I would really like to lower my car so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have the same tire numbers, depending on your drop you might have rubbing problems. You saw my drop at the meet....H&R Sports, no rubbing problems. By the looks of your sig, you have H&R OE, I'm pretty sure you're not going to have any problems with them. If you want to go lower and still play it safe, get Comptech springs, or take a chance and get the H&R Sports.

Oh and the photoshop looks like a Comptech drop, the H&R Sports are a bit lower.

do you know how much the comptech drop is? I put the H&R OE Springs because it's only a .75 inch drop. Right now with 2 or 3 people (depending on size) I am rubbing on sharp turns and on dips. If I even drop .75 I will be rubbing with only 1-2 people in the back. I have to be able to transport people. Do you know what your offset is?

Depends on how wide your wheels are, I'm gettin 19x7.5 with +48mm offset, I was told it won't rub, even with it slammed.

for 7.5 inch rims I think you need at least +45mm offset
for 8 inch rims I think you need at least +50mm offset

If the offset is too much I was told instead of rubbing the fender it would rub the frame. I think I'm going to have to take it to my tire guy and talk to him. This offset stuff is confusing. I don't even know what size wheel mine is. 18x?? All I know is I went with the tire size 225. He is a family friend so I just went with what he had.

You need at least a 48+ offset and 18 x 7.5 rims with a comptech drop without rubbing issues. Try to find out what size your rims and offset are.

I have 18x8 with 50+ offset and no problems whatsoever. I wonder if it also depends on the tire itself.

on an 18x7.5 with a +45 you wont rub with the right tire combo. with an 18x8 with a +50 offset you wont rub with the right tire combo. also, the design of the wheel and the size of the lip have to do a lot with it.

The tire will make a difference also. Each tire has a different shoulder width you need to consider. I tried out 225/45/18 for the thicker sidewall (still managed to dent the rims in Jersey...) , but the overall shoulder width made rubbing an issue even with an 18"x7" rim +45 and trimmed fenders.

Thanks guys, I'm going to my tire guy today after work to find out what I have and if they can change the offset. I'm hoping this will help so I can get the springs. I'll keep you all posted on what I hear tonight. Please keep posting your thoughts. THANKS!

you wont be able to change the offset of the rims... at most, you will only be able to change the tires. what size are your wheels? 18x? +?? offset? it says the offset on the inside of the rim and what size tires?

Oh, I don't know much about this whole offset stuff. I believe it's the wheel is 18X7.5 but I do not see what the offset is. I looked at the wheel but didn't see anything. The tires are 225/40/18.

That tire size is fine on a rim with the proper offset. Your offset is too low if you are rubbing.

Im running 19 x8 rims with 235/35-19 tires, and I dont rub at all with a Coilover drop thats slightly lower than the Comptech drop because I have the proper offset.

Can you adjust the offset, how would I know what my offset is and what should I do now?
I had no idea of all this, the guy I go to is a family friend and I trusted he knew what he was doing when he got me these wheels. Is there anything I can do now to fix this problem? I only rub when there are 2-3 people in the back, if I have the proper offset I won't rub then either, right?

The offset is whatever the rim is manufactured. Can't be changed. What you need to do is find out what is the offset of your rim. Ask your friend that. If you are rubbing with 2-3 ppl in the back without a drop, I am sure the rims have a low offset, maybe +40, +42. If so, don't drop your car.

I just got the info for my wheels. I have 18X7's with a +42 offset! That is exactly what Acura recommends, so why is it rubbing?? I guess I need a +45??
What do you guys think of rolling the fender? What are the risks? I've heard that lots of people do it but where? Anyone know of a good body place in NJ?

What do you mean "what Acura recommends"???

Stock rims are +55 offset, how or why would Acura recommend +42???

Was this a dealership telling you this? :wow:

He had in front of him the program that had wheels that fit the car and the recommended fitting was +42?? I don't know. I guess I'm focked with these rims. Don't know what else to do. I'm not crazy about rolling the fenders and I can't change rims. ugh!

that offset is too low, even for an OE drop. I have 18x7.5 with a 42 offset...i rubbed with no ppl in the back on sharp dips and bumps. I had the fender trimmed, and now i am fine(no rubbing). btw tire size is 225/40/18.

He might have looked at the 1st gen TL. We need a 1st gen TL'er to answer but I think the offset is close to 40. I'd have a serious talk with the dude. If this is all true, he gave you bad info and should take them back IMO.
