Help! No heat!

So I'm driving to the airport the other night and its cold and pouring rain. I try to get some heat and I get nothing! Its just blowing cold air. A/C works fine. I tried the heat from 72-90 degrees and went from low fan to high fan. No change.

Is this something I could look into and fix with my nominal skills?

Its an '02 TL-S with nav (if that matters).

thx!

come to TX!
how long did you keep it at 90? sometimes mine takes a little while for the mix valve to let hot air in. especially after summer when it has been pegged at 60 100% of the time for months

Look at the heater valve by firewall, and rotate your temperature dial and see it that valve turn, it is attached by a cable.

Thats usually what it is. The cable to the heater valve gets stuck. Look in the engine bay in front of the glove box. The cable may need some lube to loosen it up.

Tap your navi screen for temp selection and see if the valve outside of firewall move, you can also hear the vent motor if quiet enough.. see what you find out.

Also check the air mix motor; it is responsible for opening the heater core valve above.
Stick your head in the passenger foot area and look up right about where the center console and the dash meet - you will see a tiny black box and these big white plastic tracks. When you adjust the temperature this motor will move to adjust the air mix between hot and cold.
If it doesn't move, you'll need a new mix motor (I've gone through 2) in 11 years.

Look at this post and thread:

Basically, dirt accumulates on the cable and if it can't move easily, you won't get heat. Just wipe off the accumulated dirt and make sure it can move freely. Put some WD40 if you have it handy, but it's fine if you don't (it's lasted this long without regular lubrication)...

that worked!!

I sprayed the cable then tugged on it and it almost felt like I cracked something. Then I lubed it a bit more and moved it back and forth at bit. Turned the car on and heat start blowing immediately!

Thanks so much!!
