Help: how to find out whether the transmission has been replaced?

Hi All,

I am looking into buying a pre-owned 2000 TL. Is there any way to find out whether the tranny has been previously replaced? Should it appear in the service record? I am worrying about the reliability of the replaced tranny...

Thx.

Thanks, but it seems that I can't sign up because this vehicle was bought in Canada.

The only other option I know of is to go into your dealer and have them run your VIN# for you..

I don't see why not a mechanic should be able to find out. But in either case, you're still going to have to contact Acura in some way to get a history report of your car. Why don't you get the VIN# off your car and then call Acura yourself?

acura service rep told me that the upgraded trannys will have the mounting bolts from the bad one - so he said the paint would be worn off of the bolts.

He said original trannys will have the paint on the bolts.

Of course at some point it will come off.

just relaying what I was told and I have no idea if this is true

Just call the Acura dealer. They will need the last 4 or 8 digits of the car's VIN... Any service that has been done on the car at that dealership will show up - so obviously, call the one where you believe it was taken for service.

I have 2000TL and when time comes to sell it, I am going to stress it to the future buyer that I have replaced transmission (twice) and have an upgraded/fixed version now. Point is, just asked - whoever is selling the car should tell you the truth.

Just look to see if the VIN plate is missing, we never swap the VIN plate when installing a replacement trans. If the plate is missing it's a good indication that it was replaced, or stolen?
