help! cooling fan sensor problem
hey guys,
I have a problem with my cooling fan on my 02 TL-S
After I turn off the car, it still runs for another 10-15 minutes even when it is not hot...
I talked to a mehanic he said it might be a cooling sensor, where is it located? or do you know what the problem might be?
please help

I had the same problem when I had my TL, except mine would stay on and drain my battery till it was dead.
And it was always one of these deals where it'd never do it in front of the service rep, so they'd tell me crap like "check your battery connection."

there is also a sensor on the thermostat housing that tells the system to operate. Id start with the radiator sensor (i dont have my manual near by to tell you how to test teh sensors)
toast
if you had a low bottle and low radiator you have a LEAK
Low radiator only- full overflow bottle-possible cap problem
most likely:
another member was doing that fill and drive- and after popping the motor, learned a rock had hit the radiator
That coolant went somewhere- it should NEVER just disappear
and the temp guage should stay steady 1 mark below half- ac-hills-whatever
anything else indicates a problem

I just checked it again... half of a container is gone again, but there is nothing under the car... where could it be leaking?
the front bumper was hit, and the reinforcer was pushed in, so the repair shop pulled it back out but they didn't say anything about the radiator.
Does it have to have a hole in the radiator in order for it to leak? or can it be just one time thing? The temperature gauge shows a normal temperature.
I tried filling up the container with antifreeze again; I want to see if it will disappear again.

It means there is a serious coolant leak- front end damage often results in pinhole leak in radiator
The bottle has a hot and cold full and minimum marks- follow them- filling the bottle completely is bad- radiator filled first when cold- then the bottle to correct full mark
Do not think this happened once and is gone!!
They other thing to check is the engine oil dipstick- is it above full and grey and foamy looking or oil slick on water looking?

Ok, I checked the level of coolant this morning and found out that the radiator is full, but the reservoir is only half full. I checked under the car, and there was a little bit of moisture, so I am assuming the radiator does leak... sigh... What should I do?
After the car was hit, I drove it for about 6 months before fixing it... and there was no problem, the problem started when i got it back from the body shop -fixed. I thought maybe the shop spilled it or something, but I can't prove anything right now.
I checked the engine oil dip stick and it looks good, even though it's time for an oil change.

good- no water and oil mixed in the engine oil-
Now look in the phone book for radiator repair and ask how much for one for your car
They do installs and repair yours if able, or get good prices on replacements
Also check zone and similar for aftermarket radiator-
easier to replace than try to fix a wrecked one

Do you have any idea how hot the engine must really be to make that happen!!
The service writer in me wrings hands together evily and says:
besides putting strain on the battery and potential overheating with dire consequences, nothing to worry about- drive it till it drops- and it will
oh- and the coolant mix not being 50/50- that would be bad because the PH changes and corrosion takes over and kills....dont worry about that- your going to need a head gasket, at the least, when you overheat this thing
the guage does not tell all- if it ever says more than 1 mark below middle- there is something needing attention- unless you like calling AAA and spending way more to repair the result of the original problem plus the original problem
The decent helpful person in me says:
If you take it to a radiator shop they will put a special test cap on that pumps up the system to operating pressure with engine off.
Where the coolant squirts out is the leak- have that repaired if possible or replaced
-a check of kragen has them for 180- as a referance point
