Has anyone replaced their radiator? I've noticed that the cooling fan (with the A/C off) is going on a lot more than when it was new. My '04 6MT now has 218,000 miles. I'm concerned that its cooling efficiency has declined.

With that many miles I wouldn't be surprised if it needed replacing. That being said, I never heard of anyone really replacing it or anyone with that high mileage of a car.

 

sounds like some one slacked on the radiator maintenance.
did you ever do a coolant change?????


I would empty out coolant and replace with fresh coolant and make sure the radiator not full of debris.

then, if you are still experiencing the same results and want that piece of mind, an OEM radiator is made by DENSO. you can grab an OEM DENSO Radiator from rockauto for about $100.

you can find the same DENSO OEM Radiator from the dealer for $365



it's a very simple uninstall and install process.

- remove coolant hoses
- clamp off.
-remove coolant reservoir
- un-do bolts holding radiator
- remove radiator
- install new radiator
- reverse order to install

 

Did a coolant change when I did the first timing belt at 110K. Will be doing the second timing belt change in the next month or two....

 

My radiator was replaced on my 2008 Type S at 297,000 miles. I first noticed that the fan was running longer or would turn on when the car was turned off. The next day the radiator failed completely. It started with a small antifreeze leak and the car was running hot, than leaked all the antifreeze out and 5 qts of transmission fluid out. Lucky there was no engine or transmission damage. The car will turn 300,000 miles this week and running great.

 

Yes I replaced my radiator before. I'd say it was a medium level job, just because some of the parts and clamps are so hard to get to.

 

Replaced my 08 TL radiator at about 120k last year when the transmission line connection at the bottom passenger side of the radiator failed at about 60 mph. Coasted to a stop. Had the car towed home. Found that all coolant and transmission fluids had blown out and that the failed connection had corroded away apparently due to dissimilar metals. Dealer disavowed any design problems. I obtained a Denso radiator, cleaned out the transmission pan and magnet. Reassembled and refilled with Acura fluids. All ok with about 30k more miles. Recently, dealer service rep acknowledged several other TLs recently had same failure when I informed him I did not need their transmission flush when offered due to the impromptu fluid/radiator change last year.
